Amplifier Set-up Confusion
Before I get any you should check the forums more thoroughly replies, I just want to let you know i already tried that and other forums but nobody seem to have this question asked....[/SIZE]
It may be a stupid question, but i Haven't found a clear answer for it. Amplifier: Rockford Fosgate 1200.1 Mono Class D Specs: 1200 Watt @ 1 Ohm? But i'll be running it at ~500 Watt @ 4 Ohm Tech Manual says ; "Battery Fuse Rating (AMP) External (Not Included) - 100A" So I have a 4 gauge wiring kit with a 60A inline fuse holder. Based off the Watts law: P = I x E 500 / 13.8 (Average Voltage for most people) = 36.231884057971014492753623188406 Which is under the 60A fuse rating.... SOOO My question is... IF I have the 60A Inline fuse from the Battery to the AMP and a 100A fuse on the amp itself, would that cause any issues? Thanks in advance. |

The amp is not going to turn 100% of what it gets from the battery into power output. (So the current draw will be a little more) But the worst thing that would happen is a blown fuse. (Although it seems like you have enough headroom that the 60A fuse will probably be fine too)

The 60A should work fine for normal operation, but heavy hits at loud volume could have adverse effects on the system.
With the stats you posted, I'm assuming it's 1200W peak, not RMS. I like to call "Peak" ratings "WLS", or "When Lightning Strikes", since that's likely the only time you'll reach all the way up to those numbers. With all that said, it will help to know the RMS rating of the amplifier and the actual specs of the subs you'll be powering and in what configuration. 60A is most likely no problem, and the wiring being 4 gauge will definitely handle that without degradation, however the setup you have may possibly be under powering the subs if you have more than one wired up. |

First off you won't be near 1k watts. And your not wiring it that way so your hella safe. Unless you want to.
But just in case you blow the fuse, get an 80a fuse.

appreciate it yall, i got it hooked up and wired up...
i was just confused since I thought a 100A fuse would be put on the Amp itself, but it wasn't the case. So im just using the 60A that came with the wiring kit. Im wired @ 4 ohms and the RMS according to the amp manual is ~ 500 RMS the birthing sheet/certificate or w/e its called was tested at 1358 Watts which kinda surprised me. all in all thanks for the info you all provided! |
