Hi everyone, new member to the forum
Just wanted to share my story, and some nice pics and videos of my 2015 BRZ which i purchased a year ago to replace my modified 2015 WRX. I street drive these cars daily and also do about 10 track days a year in them at 5 different circuits here in Melbourne Australia. Current mods to my BRZ are:-RCE Yellow springs -ACE CS400 ELH -98RON tune -Velox Camber plates -DBA rotors and Winmax brake pads -Castrol Edge 0w40 engine oil -Motul Gear 300 Trans and Diff fluid -Castrol Dot4 brake fluid -17x8 +35 Enkei RPF1 -235/40/17 Dunlop Direzza Z2* & now trying out the Nankang AR1 Future mods i want are Coilovers, E85 fuel, 255 wide rubber, 17x9 wheels, shorter final drive, aero mods, weight reduction.. and hope i wont get kicked out of the house by my wife ![]() In terms of background, i have always been into cars having driven lots of different fwds, awds, and also had a Nissan S14 for a while, but never competed. Only in 2015 i started competing in our local Impreza WRX Club VIC Sprint Championship in a then brand new 2015 WRX and that year i received Rookie of the Year award for setting some lap records and also achieved Street Class 3rd place even though i only did 4 out of 9 rounds winning 3 out of 4, and in 2016 i came 2nd in Clubman Class which is the next class up with faster, more heavily modified cars having won 2 out of 6 rounds getting outgunned by a very experienced driver in a modified 1999 WRX STI which is 200kgs lighter than my 2015 WRX. But this year i decided to get a BRZ and people were like why! Mainly because i wanted something more involving to drive, AWD just becomes too sterile after a while if you are not off road. I also liked the idea of racing against different types of cars (WRXs mainly) as each has its own strengths and the different circuits we visit favour different cars. So i entered into Street Class against some mildly modified WRXs and there was also another BRZ competitor. The Club Championship is a 7-8 round Circuit Sprint Championship and we accrue points each round and at the end of the year the driver with the most points in each class wins their class. There are 5 Classes in total and around 70-80 competitors and also the driver with the most points out of all classes overall, wins the Club Championship. And this year i was tied for 1st Place for the outright Club Championship win! But unfortunately lost out to a WRX STI Spec C in Sprint Class (2 classes above mine) after a countback of round wins still resulted in a tie, meaning the Championship Winner was then decided based on which Class had more competitors as per Club rules, and Street Class unfortunately had a couple less than the Sprint Class. Nevertheless i am still very happy to have won 1st Place this year in my class winning 6 out of 7 rounds as it was totally unexpected (and only lost 1 round by 0.2s! because i had to leave at mid day due to family commitments). I also set new Street Class lap records at all circuits i visited as well, so no regrets really Another achievement with the BRZ was also winning 1st Place in Street Class in our National Subaru Circuit Sprint event called SubiNats http://www.speedhunters.com/2017/07/...lias-subinats/ where the fastest Subarus around the country come together to compete and its a very social event as well, akin to World Time Attack held in Australia every year Hope you all enjoy the pics here and also check out my instagram https://www.instagram.com/zflyingnurse/ and full track videos at my youtube channel dedicated to my cars https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtr...view_as=public, and please comment, like and subscribe ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Will be adding my Street Class 1st place trophy to this pile soon ![]()

This below vid might be of interest to a lot of you, as i just installed the fuel starvation door by Velox and have ran my tank down to 1/4 and suffered fuel surge on the main straight at 180+km/h. I am on 98RON.

Thanks for the pics and info. Clearly you are adjusting well from the WRX to the BRZ!

So everyone, for 2018 i have decided to move up a class to challenge the big boys in "Clubman" Class in the Impreza WRX Club VIC Motorsport Championship. In order to challenge i could either install a turbo or S/C kit and be very limited in tyre, suspension and aero mods, or i can stay N/A and i have chosen to stay N/A
![]() Reasons mainly being 1) Cost 2) Reliability , as going FI means a host of other upgrades will be required in the drivetrain department so i am trying to keep it simple and stay N/A but going to run E85, and just enjoy exploring the beautiful chassis and driving the car to the best of my abilities and if i beat the big power STIs/Tarmac Rally Cars, fantastic, and if i don't well at least i gave it a go and will be setting new PBs in the process so its not all bad ![]() Now i am in a real dilemna with Suspension, as i have considered and been offered to run Whiteline's new MaxG / AST Coilover, looked at KW V3 and Ohlin's R&T, and also some of our local brand offerings. However what i found was majority of these Coilovers come with soft spring rates (4-5kg/mm) apart from a couple of our cheaper local offerings. I am already running RCE Yellows which are 4.5kg/mm and found that with grippier street tyres the chassis is already starting to roll a lot more than desireable so going to R Compound tyres will only exacerbate this issue. I could run bigger swaybars but i don't think that's the right way to go about it. So i was originally set on running 8kg/mm spring-rates and will either be running Nankang AR1 R Compound tyres in 235/40/17 or 245/40/17, and also an APR GTC200 rear wing which i have purchased recently. Now what i would really appreciate is experienced track guys like CSG Mike and RCE to chime in and give me your opinion on what i should run. I am actually very interested in RCE's Coilover offerings and i have not come across anyone here in Australia running it.

The Whiteline coilovers do look nice, but the standard spring rates are too soft for your uses. Not sure if they allow customization. Ohlins and KW V3 too soft as well. We still certainly support our products wherever they are and they are being used in Europe and Latin America, but the shipping isn't cheap. MCA is probably worth looking at as they have a great reputation. Just saw you PMed me...I'll get back to you there in a sec. ![]() - Andrew |

Sandown Circuit - Sorry its a low quality dashcam, and there is a sound glitch at 2:30, so video and sound doesn't quite sync correctly after that but it gives you an idea of the circuit and how much kerb we use. Not really a circuit that favours the BRZ, the AWD Turbo cars eats us up here. This was on 225 Advan AD08R and stock alignment in Summer (in car view). Pardon the language at the end, was on a green lap when they showed the red flag :p - [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjQ7zBnFBZU"]Subaru BRZ vs Nissan 350Z (WRX Club VIC Sprints Rd 2 Winton Raceway) - YouTube[/ame] Winton raceway on 235 Direzza Z2* (dashcam view) - [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Cit0W6GLWc"]BRZ dash cam @ Winton Raceway (WRX Club VIC Sprints Rd 5) - YouTube[/ame] Broadford Motorsport Complex on Direzza Z2*: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmDAOQNZy_E&t=3s"]Subaru BRZ at Broadford Motorsport Complex - 1:08.5 PB (3rd lap in) - YouTube[/ame] Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit is the smoothest of the lot, on Direzza Z2*: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irEkNY1rVg0"]BRZ @ Phillip Island GP Circuit - SubiNats 2017 Street Class 1st Place PB 1:54 laps - YouTube[/ame] I am considering a splitter but would like to have the rear wing on first.. Actually, let me rephrase. I should say i would like to sort out my suspension choice first haha, because that is most crucial. Tyre size i am pretty set on either 245/40/17 or 255/40/17 for the mechanical grip, but leaning towards 245/40 for smaller rolling diameter. Then get rear wing on, before i decide on front splitter if necessary. Worry is too much drag which could cost me quite a bit of laptime on some of these faster circuits. rear wing might even come off for those tracks. That is one thing i don't have, reliably. I usually run my Android Phone RaceChrono Pro app which is pretty reliable when it comes to lap timing but other telemetry isn't so great. Would need an external GPS for it to work properly i think. And same with pyrometer, i dont have one, i use the touch n feel method haha but that only gives surface temps. Last edited by zbrz; 12-02-2017 at 08:36 AM. |
