Help! No one can program my key
I lost my only key for my FRS and I have had two different locksmiths come and neither was able to create the key. Can anyone explain why or know what problem I'm having. It's a 2013 frs without push to start. Thanks!

I'm going to hazard a guess and say they didn't have the right equipment.
You could probably get a Toyota dealer to program the key pretty easily. You can most likely get it towed to one. |

So on my car, we were tolled that car is programmed to the key and not the other way around (by the dealership). We ended up putting finders on our keys so I can chirp them to find them.

They probably pay you when they make replacement keys for German cars. Maybe we will find out in a month or so.

If the OP gets out the door for $500 he should consider himself lucky. If you ever get down to 1 key, consider biting the bullet to have a second made. When I bought my car (used) it only had one key. I demanded a second key or no sale - and the dealership (who had never programmed an FRS key) had to try multiple times and stated that the second key cost them $325. Good luck OP - keep us posted!

I'd strongly suggest getting a valet key made for your FR-S. If it's not one of the special editions with the push-button start and all that, then you can have it done without a problem. It works the same as your remote-equipped key, but has the normal grey square-ish Toyota (or Scion) key head, and looks like a normal key. This key allows you to open and start the car, but should not allow the trunk to be opened (by key, of course. If you don't disable the trunk release with the button in the trunk, the button in the car will still open it). At least this way you can keep an extra key on you, in your house, hidden on the car, etc., and have a way of getting into the car still if your main key gets lost/stolen/damaged/locked in the car....and it's far less expensive than a new master key.
Toyota is sadly getting farther away from providing this type of key with their new cars, and I always appreciated having it with my old Corolla, so I was happy to know I was getting one with this car. It comes in handy, especially if you ever do need to valet park the car.
