Parts to modify first on toyota 86

Hi everyone, I just recently bought a toyota 86 860 se and I don't know what to modify first. I'm planning to modify only the engine like intake, header coz I already have a trd exhaust instaled by dealer. Any suggestion please. Thank you in advance!

You should drive the car while it's stock first. If you do that you'll get an idea of what kinds of changes you need to make. Plus you can look through many of the build journals on here to get an idea of what other people have done.

There is nothing about the stock intake that needs fixing. It's already as good as it needs to be unless you are going FI. Why do you feel the need to instantly mod your 860?

This, I was pretty dead set on getting a cold air intake before doing my research on what I've already installed on my car. There's really no reason to go past dropping a K&N filter in and getting an intake inlet hose that deletes the sound tube. I went with Perrin's blue intake hose and the KN Filter and maybe spent like $120 tops. Local FRS/BRZ/86 car groups will be your savior if your like me and want to save some money for other important parts

Besides that though, exhaust wise I'd hold back on the TRD exhaust. Everyone and their mother will give you a different reccomendation on exhaust setups but it's probably the most effective to participate in local 86 events and hear setups for yourself and go that route. YouTube videos won't do you justice and everyone has their own preference.

Also kudos on getting an 860, extremely jealous!

The cost vs gains is worthless.
If you get headers you'll need a proper tune. That's how it works on this car. Why spend around $400 for 10hp at best. Unless all you care about is the sound. But then again there are people that buy $4k wheels and are strictly parking lot queens.

My two cents:
Drive the car, enjoy it. Take all that money you want to spend on mods, use it on autox or track days. Also better tires would make things way better then the mediocre tires it has on.

After that if you feel the need to "mod" it, do whatever.

Also keep in mind the more you "mod" it the less your car is worth.

Drop-in filter that will fit (depending if you have a manual or an automatic).

Drive the car and get used to it. That way, if you want to lower it down the road, you'll have a better idea of how to avoid scraping it. As mentioned, driving it and getting used to it first will give you a better idea of what mods you would like to do.

Super Nova or Halo, btw?

save up for an ACE header / tune. They're expensive, so you'll get used to the car in stock form and that alone will make you want to save up for something that you know will actually make a noticeable difference.

If you can't identify what you don't like about the car, or what you would like to change, then nothing needs to be changed. Figure out what you would like to be different about the car first.
