Hard to shift at High RPM (above 7K)
Hello all,
Before I begin, I bought GT86 from japan , model year - 2013 with Greddy T818z Set up. I don't know if the upcoming description is normal. When I try to shift from 1 to 2, 2 to 3, 3 to 4 at 7000 or above RPM(Of course, I press the pedal down all the way), my gear shifts feel really hard , get lock and it requires quite an effort to shift between these gears. Can change the gear when RPM comes down to 5500 RPM. You know when you don't press your clutch pedal down 100%, it does not change gears smoothly (but not really , yeah, my car feels like that 100% percent ok all the time, especially when I shift gears between 2k rpm and 6k rpm. However, when I shift at higher rpm (usually near 7k rpm for me), it feels really hard . Can anyone explain what kind of problem is this. how can i solve it. Please help me out with this. Thanks alot. |

Any clutch or clutch pedal mods that might worth to reverse a bit in case if they result in non fully disengaged clutch/slight clutch drag?
If anything for me upshifts near red line are usually easier then at low rpms. |

You are right. Upshift near redline should be easy. But i could not figure out why its happening.

I have a hard time upshifting 1-2 at higher rpm, say 5k+, as if the gate is blocked and I need to force it in. Other upshifts are OK at any rpm.

When starting from a stop, where does your clutch start to grab relative to where the clutch pedal is, near the floor or closer to the top of the pedal travel?

That is definitely not normal. In my mind it could be how and if the clutch pedal is adjusted, an aftermarket clutch that is dragging, perhaps a master or slave cylinder issue or even the wrong oil in the gearbox.
How much of the car's history do you know?

I have a similar issue but mine is a new 2017 toyota 86. In first gear it's very difficult to go from 1st to 2nd at 5K+ rpm. Ground my gears a couple times cause of that. The rest of the gears are perfect

I would have guessed that if it was closer to the floor it might be causing issues with shifts, which could be helped with a clutch pedal adjustment. The only other thing that comes to mind since I just changed out my shifter is the reverse lockout plate being out of adjustment, although that wouldn't cause an issue for a 3-4 shift.

StraightOuttaCanadaEh: "new" - maybe gears/synchros need some mileage to break in?
