Tire break in?

How long should breaking in a tire last? Tire installer says 300 miles, 500 miles from Tirerack and some say not at all. This is for a road tire now and not track tires.

I don't think I have ever had a set of tires take more than 100 miles or so to settle in and loose the manufacturing slickness and noise. Give it a run at mid to high speed on a highway for a bit and all should be good. All you need to do is knock a couple of microns off the tread and get the side walls flexed a bit.

The only break in required is to wear off the mold release compound. That has to do with how hard you drive it. On a track it could be three miles. On the road it could be 30.

I got about 30 miles on them and they are really sticking compared to when I put them on. I've been taking turns like a racecar so I guess I am good to go.

My motorcycle tires need 100 miles to break in, I didn't know tires needed to break in. I would think a highway ride and some quick off ramps should do it.

It's only release compound. For bikes 10 miles should do it. Max. Take it easy until the chicken strip has gone and be really careful in the wet. Some people wash there tyres with soapy water but it's not really necessary.

Cars I just take it easy for a mile or so and just deliberately scrub them in.
