Installing a Galaxy Nexus ? Ideas ?

Preferably the new 7 incher. Are there ready made pieces that can attach the Nexus somewhere on the console ? or even DIY home-made solutions ?

something like this . .. if not exactly like this:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stE33HD4g-c&feature=related"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stE33HD4g-c&feature=related[/ame]

i wonder if the fit isn't too difficult since the headunit space is about the size of the smaller tablets.

You mean the Nexus 7. Galaxy Nexus is a 4-inch phone.

I compared the default unit to a 7 inch Kindle Fire which is similar in size to the Nexus 7; it was fine horz, but an inch too big vertically. A Pioneer AppRadio or smaller Android might be preferable.

I plan on getting a N7 too and using it as an infotainment center.
Here is the best mount I've found so far and I think it will work nicely for our cars.

YouTube Product Demo

Which amazon sells for $50

Fully adjustable, rotates from landscape to portrait easily, and has a low profile on the dash.

Anyone have know where i can pick one up at a retail store in socal?

Question: If you do something like this will you be removing the Nexus 7 from your car and hiding the mount everywhere you go? It just seems to me like this screams break my windows and search for electronics.

I've never had a setup like this with a highly popularized device so I don't know how you would do it.

Thanks

I've been considering a setup like this too, but is the "DashCommand" price of $50 worth the $45 premium over the "Torque" app?

That's pretty sick, what else could compete with a tablet on the dash? the bill will be pretty high but I feel like i could just use wi-fi tethering when i'm on my phone.

Android now allows for off-line map viewing with some navigation capability.

If your needs are modest, you can download a particular city and/or surrounding
area and not need a data connection.

I wouldn't bother with HD radio links over data because the connection may be poor,
costs high, and the quality obviously suffers compared to what you can put together
on your own data stick, CD, etc.

For those that want a solution for their phones there is a product on Kickstarter that is set to launch in the next month or two called "Dash" This device acts like a Alpine headunit with preamps, and also charges your phone while running.. They are making various apps including a diagnostics one which will work with OBD2 readers to clear engine codes and check other engine vitals.. The only issue i've seen with these tablet mods is the fact that keeping them charged when the car is off (no booting wait) and getting audio output is a pita (plus cords sticking out).. Good luck!
