I'm into it for Edgar Wright, the lowest rated movie he's directed is Scott Pilgrim, as a writer it's Ant Man and/or Adventures of TinTin. He's been putting out grade-A stuff for almost 20 years now, I don't know if there's anybody making movies I trust more.

Good camera work and believable car stunts (zero interest in F&F bullshit), I'm sold. I'll believe the trailer is a hack job to get the masses in the seats until I hear otherwise and a non-unique plot isn't a deal killer for me.

Edit: omg the US trailer is more awful than I thought it would be, here's the international trailer cut.

Usually it's because many international markets are interested in knowing the overall story premise first, instead of a "peel back as you go" layered trailer/teaser setup.

I have friends that work at movie studio distribution, and they have entire divisions dedicated for this.

Funny, I'd describe the international one as 'peel back' moreso than the American, but that's semantics.

I don't doubt the people responsible do their job well, they are paid to put as many butts in seats as possible.

I just know that trailers are not kind to some directors, and can be overly generous to others. For example that 'joke' about the Michael Myers masks is probably a 1+ minute scene in the movie to nail the tone and make it as funny as possible, in the trailer it's cut down to ~10s and comes off as dumb. Trailers work great for some kinds of action & comedy, I just don't think it does Wright any favors. It's also probably one of the few opportunities they have to compact a 'set-up & punchline' joke from this movie into the trailer.

I went back and watched the trailers for Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and At World's End, I wouldn't see any based on their trailers but they're some of my favorite movies.

I guess back to the cars now, looks like we'll get some Cadillac drifting on screen action, woot woot.
