I'm into it for Edgar Wright, the lowest rated movie he's directed is Scott Pilgrim, as a writer it's Ant Man and/or Adventures of TinTin. He's been putting out grade-A stuff for almost 20 years now, I don't know if there's anybody making movies I trust more.
Good camera work and believable car stunts (zero interest in F&F bullshit), I'm sold. I'll believe the trailer is a hack job to get the masses in the seats until I hear otherwise and a non-unique plot isn't a deal killer for me. I don't doubt the people responsible do their job well, they are paid to put as many butts in seats as possible. I just know that trailers are not kind to some directors, and can be overly generous to others. For example that 'joke' about the Michael Myers masks is probably a 1+ minute scene in the movie to nail the tone and make it as funny as possible, in the trailer it's cut down to ~10s and comes off as dumb. Trailers work great for some kinds of action & comedy, I just don't think it does Wright any favors. It's also probably one of the few opportunities they have to compact a 'set-up & punchline' joke from this movie into the trailer. I went back and watched the trailers for Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and At World's End, I wouldn't see any based on their trailers but they're some of my favorite movies. ![]() I guess back to the cars now, looks like we'll get some Cadillac drifting on screen action, woot woot. |
