Double din head unit

What double din head unit is a direct replacement for the stock analog pioneer unit?

It's going to depend on what you mean by "direct replacement".

If you mean plug-and-play, no additional fiddling around required you would have to go with one of the Toyota/Subaru units that come as an option. Those for the most part plug directly into the existing harness.

For example, I replaced my 2013 basic unit with the AHA with Nav unit out of a 2014 FR-S.

Easy swap and works great, but I'm no audiophile.

Any aftermarket unit will require you to add a harness to the radio to work directly with the car harness, and with that some things like the remote mic may not work (it's a powered noise cancelling mike and won't work with most aftermarket units). You'll also most likely have to use a trim plate because the opening is not a standard size.

All very doable but not what I would call a "direct replacement". Crutchfield.com does a good job of showing you what is available that will fit, and what accessories you will need to make it work.

i think majority of DDIN will fit without needing a dash kit. wiring though is another story.
im not expert, but depending on what year your FRS is, you might need wiring for the backup camera and also wiring to ensure the stock USB port still works.

Many aftermarket double din are too narrow compared to OEM. Probably better asked in the electronic subforum though and you can also check builds to see what people use and if it required a dash kit or not.

If you have the basic kit you could always look for an OEM touchscreen for a small upgrade
