Oil temp reading via OBDLINK?

I've got an Obdlink LX bluetooth adapter. I used to read and display the oil temps via this adapter on my phone in various apps.

I've done a few changes to the car, and I wanted to check the oil temps - and now it does not come up! In any app. I've tried it a number of times, reconnecting, starting/stopping the engine, etc. Nothing.


The catch: I've plugged in my OFT, and on the OFT I can see the oil temp.




Changes done;
- new battery
- new Jackson Racing dual radiator installed (oil & coolant)

I've nfi which one of these may have caused this (or not) and I've nfi how/what can be done to diagnose & fix this.


Any advice is much welcome!

Just confirming, have you tried the OBDlink app as well?

Does the LX give readings for other values like RPM, coolant temp or nothing at all?

Yes and yes; I've tried the OBDlink app, and I get all the other readings perfectly well.

hm...ok so you're saying I need to hack this pid into torque.

The weird thing is that I used to get this reading quite normally.

And the issue: I'm not using toruqe on track. I want to record my sessions eg raceChrono (used Harry's before). If I can't hack those, then I'd need a proper fix. It's really weird how this oil temp reading got away....

And add salt to the wound: I'm trying to register on the obdlink support forums, but it does not send the verification mail. I've tried to re-send it a number of times; nothing (yes I've checked the spam folder). It's been a day so to me it seems they aren't sending mails - i.e. rego is locked.

Get support if you can...pffh.

use the actual OBDlink app, it's much better than torque.

I do use it, I'll try this import as well, but does this solve the problem that other apps can't see the oil temp now?

Edit: tested, this works for obdlink, thanks.
sadly, it does not solve the really weird issue that my normal oil temp reading is gone, so no oil temp in harry's laptimer nor in racechrono. Fuck me.

Just realized nobody has suggested looking to see if the wires for the oil temp sensor have been damaged.

Yeah, but he can see the oil temp from the OFT. Hmmm.


Maybe re-flash the ECU to stock?

I'd hate to do that - but for a test it makes sense. I'll have CEL codes with the ACE header Thanks for the suggestion.


p.s. is it possible the OFT reads the "other" pid ? One that can be hacked into Obdlink or Toque ( 2101 / 7E0 ) ?

Hey, thanks again for that tip on the tune. I've re-flashed to the old tune I used back then for tracking and I've got the generic oil temp that raceChrono reads.

So we've got to the core of the problem! Fantastic.
