Thinking about getting a Buick

Ecstatic owner of BRZ limited 2013.

Wife needs new car. At the breakfast table Sunday I spy an auto dealer full page advert on back of sports section showing 20% off select 2016 Buick Regal

I haven't owned a GM product for over 30 years. VDub and now subies are in the stable.

Not being familiar with the regal I do a little homework and discover the GS trim level is a sleeper and targets lower midrange luxury German and Japanese cars.

Last night I test drove a leftover 2015 front wheel drive version. I was impressed! It's based on an Opel that has quite a bit more oomph than what we have in the states.

Anyone here driven one or even own one? There is an AWD model that I'd like to check out but they are scarce.

Actually felt sorry for the deAlership. Stuck with four 2 year old models that will instant depreciate 35% the moment it is titled. no one will buy that unless they discount accordingly. But they can't. Saw a2015 regal premium 2 that lists for about $33k with 4000 miles listed at $19.8. Depreciation is ugly for these models. They likely don't qualify for any of the GM backed discounts for the 2016 model. And the likely pay some kind of floor planning fees too. Ouch.

They're nice cars.

When they came out, the M6 was considered to be kind of junky. I'd have to drive both to decide if it was bad enough to make me go auto.

It's an I4 turbo isn't it? If so, I've heard they run well. I drove a Cadillac ATS though one time (which is essentially the same car) and thought it had power about like a 9v battery.

But I DO like Buicks. My family had an old 99 LeSabre that I effin' loved. Rode like a cloud, was reliable and got good mileage while having more room and trunk space than mid-sized SUVs.

Regals are nice - I've driven both a GS and a Regal turbo. I obviously prefer the sporting pretenses of the GS, but I'd be hard-pressed to buy one new, due to the points OP made in his post.

On the used market they're a bargain, but I'd have to get the screaming deal of the century to be willing to buy one new (like 0% plus at least $10k off). I just checked used ones near me and found a 2013 with 27k miles for $17,900.

I work for a GM dealer and love them. I wouldn't get a GS for anything close to MSRP. honestly you can get a 2017 CLA AMG for similar money. Way more power and they are both AWD 2.0L AMG makes 375 hp and produces 26PSI off boost factory :o However if the price is right they are great cars I just don't see the value personally

I dunno, The folks at Buick have been trying harder lately and any model with a GS after its name has at least got a hot powerplant. Oh, and then there's this:

It was introduced at this year's Detroit Auto Show.

Obviously a personal 2+2 luxury coupe, and I'm not saying it's our sportscar dream, just relating that it has a 400 hp 3.0L V6 with twin turbos and an eight-speed auto trans feeding the rear wheels. Like @ToySub1946, I've got 15 years to go to 85, and don't know many gents of eighty-five who wouldn't kill himself the first time he fired it up. If I was fixed like Jay Leno, one of these would be parked in my garage right next to the 1965 Riviera GS with its 6.5 L V8.

Not with a Regal, but my gf is on her 2nd Verano Turbo. She leased one in 2014 and when that was up, got the same 2016 version of the car. [Prior to the Verano's, she had 2 civics and 1 accord and loved her Hondas]

Pros: it isn't a bad looking car (Regals are basically the same, just stretched a few inches)
250 hp/260 ft.lbs 2.0l Turbo, 6-speed auto - it's no slouch
has every creature comfort you'd want, the interior is one of GM's better efforts
had 0 problems with the 2014

Con: they both have a terrible rattle in the headliner you can't get rid of. It's like they consistently break the same clip in assembly and it rattles around in a plastic bracket. Both cars, same rattle, same spot. It would drive me insane but my gf deals.

But overall, I was surprised and impressed with her choice. Solid, sporty, comfy car.

The day I buy a Buick will be the day I pull my pants above my navel and wear a white belt to match my shoes.

Actually, they are good realtor cars.

Eh, Buick is probably one of the most underrated American brands, there's a couple I wouldn't hesitate to hop in and their new cars seem to be a bit better than most of their GM counterparts. Not a high bar, but not insignificant.

I'll buy any car if it fits the bill of what I'm looking for, I mean I do drive a Scion after all.

The LeSabre name brings back fond memories. Had an uncle that had one like below back in the day. The door gap was wide enough you could close the hand of your 8 year-old nephew in it and the door would shut. Yes, it hurt like hell.

Buick is as far from excitement as you can go with a car.

Engineered by Valium!

Big seller in China apparently though. Perhaps they are all horny for USDM cars.
