I wouldn't do it again...
As much as I like the FR-S for what it is, if I had to do it all over I would not have bought it. Most of my 'disappointment' isn't from the car itself, rather the deal I went through to buy the car. I thought a car is what I wanted, getting a little tired of driving a big SUV like the 4Runner and an FJ before that.
Everything started going downhill when I traded the FJ 2 years ago. $4k negative equity didn't seem like A LOT to bury on a $44k truck. 2 years later I trade the 4Runner and that's the biggest mistake I've made EVER. The negative equity had ballooned to $15K.... I put $2k down and yeah, I buried $13k negative equity into the FR-S. You don't need to tell me how much of a bad decision this was, I already know. My dealership gave me $29.4k for my 4Runner and promptly listed it for $38K. It sold right away, maybe not at $38k but they still made a nice profit. So I eplained to my dealership I wasn't happy and they agreed to sell me a new 4Runner at invoice, but unfortunately I would be paying $62K out the door which is just way too much. It's a terrible situation to be in a car and owe way more than it's worth. It literally ruins the experience of driving the FR-S because the stigma of a bad deal (my fault) is always there. Rob |

Lifes short Rob enjoy it and forget about the numbers. Its your choice at the end of the day and you might regret it but remember this is an experience that you are after and you are enjoying...like its excellent you had the jump from car to car and its your joy man enjoy!
Live and Enjoy I say (came out of 4k negative equity myself) it will all even out and learn from the experience...

![]() What are you going to do if, god forbid, you ever wreck the car? It would have to be one heck of a gap insurance policy to cover that.

Personally though, I have never heard of an insurance plan that covers more than the bluebook value of the car.

You should be happy you have the FR-S, compared to those who are on waiting list later this year.
Look you already paid for it, why fuss about the $, sure you might of lost "a lot" of money, but it's something that can be made back, and on-top of that you live and learn from your mistakes. Enjoy what you have is the way I look at it. Moving forward is the key, looking back is history. "YOLO?" P.S. Dealers have to "rip" you off for them to make a profit, just depends on how they do it..

There are insurance policies that cover things like that. My policy has replacement value for my Lexus, to replace it with an equivalent new model year if it is written off for 5 years.

Ideally maybe I should have kept the 4Runner and leased the FR-S. I know I will miss the 4Runner when winter comes.... Rob |

Dude, enjoy your new FRS! The mistakes you made are in the rear view mirror. Do not dwell on them. Learn, move forward.

Rob, look, I don't mean to be a downer but I am a straightforward kind of guy. You sound like you already are well aware of your poor financial decisions, so we don't need to really be rubbing it in. At this point, all you can really do is suck it up and pay down what you owe, and be careful not to dig yourself in any deeper! You'd be surprised how fast you can dig yourself out if you really put your mind to it. |
