brz as therapy

since we're having this indian summer i got a free weekend day to take out the brz. luckily for myself i live near some twisty country roads and went for a drive on one of my favorite routes. i still love that after more than a year that car puts such a smile on my face. with the windows down and only going only slightly over the speed limit, whipping around corners at speed and tracking curves like a go-kart its unlike any car ive ever had the chance to drive and it makes you just focus on the driving itself, it makes the driving fun.

if youre out there wondering whether to get this car, are past the time in yor life when the stomp pedal is the only thing important to you and you can live with the compromises of size and utility (or you have a primary car), its an absolute blast.

Great post. I can't wait. I always wish whenever I need to de-stress that I had the car already and that I could take it to some hills. It's going to be marvelous.

Right on,

To add to your discussion, I rarely drive mine (3500 miles in over 13 months). I'm in sales so it can get pretty tiring but being able to de-stress with my BRZ is worth the price.

I also have fun around the speed limit even just 5-10 over which most people drive anyway! I love feeling the bumps and hearing the tires chirp. It's just a big toy. I love it so much despite it not being my daily driver. For those who do daily drive it, I envy you guys! The only reason I didn't buy mine as a daily driver is because I want to have it 20 years from now and in order to that I'd need to baby it.

In fact after my DD Lease ends I'm looking at either the WRX, STI, and perhaps the 2nd Gen BRZ if it happens.

This should be the anti-car&driver thread. It really shines on nice twisty roads. My other car is a big family car and if you push it you realise the weight.

I do the same. I already have it 2 years and still smells like new. I have done in total 4k miles.

How can you drive it so little? It's such a blast!

I've been struggling to keep mine under 10Km/year. And, I store it for the winter...

I realized the mistake of leasing this car about one year in: I just couldn't resist driving a little further, or looking for some empty snow-covered parking lots to fool around in (I wonder how much of my ODO mileage was from parking lot shenanigans wheelspin).

I ended up 15,000km over my limit when I returned the car, and decided to never lease another fun car again (might as well buy it so I can enjoy it without guilt or penalty).

Great way to decompress after work (even in downtown Toronto traffic).

It is not my DD and the streets here are boring straights. You need curvy mountain roads to have fun. I am sure that I'll do more miles when I move back to my country. We have many nice roads there. Check a nice hillclimb:

I've been a big advocate of "Car Therapy" for many years. This post definitely resonates with me.

Oh hills! How I yearn for hills! :-(

In South Florida all we have is straight flat roads. "Oh look! A speed bump! Oh yea baby!"

I have 3200 commute miles and 6400 therapy miles this year. It worked so well, I gave my notice at work for the end of the year.

Ah! Now I understand. I need to go north before getting roads like that. I get short spurts but that's it around here.

I am retired, go on hikes twice a week.

Some hikes are within 10 miles of home, others 30 to 50 miles away.

Hikers like to ride share.

I refuse to do so.

I often tell others, in humor, I hate the hikes, just enjoy the drive to and from them.

I've driven this car coast to coast and back home three times now. We have the best roads in the country here, right at home. All asphalt, none of that nasty concrete here. Love driving here...including a few dirt roads.

I do understand why some state this car has a rough ride. Surely that's usually where there are many potholed roads in the rust belt. No such problem here.

Gotta go now. Just another unnecessary drive awaits.

I drive her to get her hair done.

I drive her to get groceries.

I drive her to work.

I pick her up from work.

She knows it's the BRZ, but loves the newfound attentiveness anyway.

I will drive the BRZ for no good reason, other than driving the BRZ is a good reason to drive the BRZ.

When I drive my clunky old work van, I'm constantly thinking about how much more fun this road would be . . . in the BRZ.

And this is weird - as much as this car doesn't soak up the big bumps like I'd like, I always find that after a multi hour cruise I still feel refreshed and back painless. An hour in my Accord Coupe with HFP suspension would have me craving my driveway.

Therapy.

Ahhhh.
