Arrow 86DRIVE End Of Summer Celebration - Oct 22 2016

86DRIVE’s End of Summer celebration event will be held on Saturday Oct 22. We will return to The Junction Bar & Grill in Livermore, where we held it 2 years ago. We love the drive there, the food, and the folks and we hope you do too!

Location:
The Junction Bar and Grill
47300 Mines Rd, Livermore, CA 94550, United States

The DRIVE to the Junction. For those of you who’ve been there before, you know that the Junction is way out in the middle of nowhere, somewhat midway between the city of Livermore and the city of San Jose. The roads that lead there are some of our favorite driving roads, but they are also not for the faint of heart, nor the wildly cambered and stanced types. If your car has super low bodywork or is set up for show, I hate to tell you this but you’re probably not going to enjoy this drive! The road condition can be pretty rough, there is a fair amount of gravel in some spots, and anyone concerned about keeping their car pristine and blemish-free is better off not attempting the trip. That said, everybody is welcome to this event, just don’t blame me if you scrape, chip, or otherwise damage your car on the drive there. I will leave the formation of caravans to the event up to individual members, there will probably be separate groups coming from the East Bay (Livermore-Mines Rd) side and the South Bay (San Jose-Mt. Hamilton Rd. Hwy 130) side that you can join up with. Perhaps also a group from the Central Valley (Patterson-Del Puerto Canyon Rd) as well.

Prize raffle.
As those of you who’ve joined us in years past know, we do this prize raffle at the end of the summer drives season and use it to reward our drivers who participate the most — the ones who earn the most STARS from participating in our drives and related events, get the most raffle tickets. Hopefully you have your 2016 86DRIVE card and if you’ve been coming out to our summer events, you have collected some STARS. Didn’t make it out to any of our events? That’s OK, just by coming out to this EOS event you will earn one STAR. Each STAR equals one raffle ticket. We will not sell raffle tickets, they are only earned by acquiring STARS. We will have a few more events this summer, and chances to earn more STARS! If you participated in any organized track days or autocross events this summer in the period between June 11, 2016 and October 21, 2016, you also are entitled to one STAR for each day you participated — you just need to provide proof of participation, please contact me for further details.

Write your name on the card (either real name or your screen name) so we know it’s yours.
What are the 86DRIVE-approved events?
- Any official 86DRIVE event such as a weekend drive, or meets such as Cars & Coffee
- Any 86CUP time attack event, or any track day, or any drift day at a local CA racetrack such as Thunderhill, Laguna Seca, Buttonwillow or Sonoma.
- Any local autocross event that is sanctioned by a recognized motorsports group, such as SCCA, AAS, SpeedSF, PCA, Lotus club, etc.

What if you have a card full of STARS but can’t make the EOS2016 event? Post a photo of your card in this thread, displaying your STARS before Oct 21 at 4PM and I’ll enter you in the raffle.

86DRIVE aims to promote fun but safe driving. We do not condone or encourage risky driving behavior on public streets or highways, and if we see you engaging in dangerous or illegal activity at one of our events, or behave inappropriately, we reserve the right to: 1) restrict access to or ask you to leave the 86DRIVE event, and 2) cancel your participation or ability to earn STARS for an 86DRIVE event, and/or any future events.

The success of our past events and raffles is in large part due to the generous gifts and prizes that local vendors contribute to our prize pool, and we in turn continue to support and endorse these local businesses. We’ve been very lucky to have some very awesome prizes to give away each year! So please keep these vendors in mind the next time you are looking to get something done for your car, and support those who support us.

Some of the awesome raffle prizes we will be giving away:
Mann Engineering lowering springs for BRZ/FRS
Mann Engineering stainless steel brake lines
(2) Sets of quick latches including install ($200 value) by The Racers Line
$100 Gift certificate for Whiteline products courtesy of The Racers Line
$500 discount off on ACE Headers
86DRIVE 2016 Limited Edition Coffee Mugs
86DRIVE Summer 2016 T-shirts
86CUP photo book from Scott Grasso Photography ( @Pwolf )
Alignment by Elite Performance
$100 credit towards labor at Elite Performance
$150 credit towards purchase of a set of Volk Racing wheels at Elite Performance

Garage
Decided to do a check of Mines Rd/ San Antonio Valley Rd/ CA-130 etc. to make sure the recent rains didn't put any worrisome rocks on the roads and that there were no landslides or anything that would affect meet-up on Saturday. I drove from Livermore up to Lick Observatory (I still think they should have used his full name) and on to San Jose (Wish I had the kind of time that would let me double back and hit Del Puerto Canyon as well).

The road was almost perfectly clear on both the Livermore and the San Jose sides. There was one spot coming from Livermore that had a couple rocks on the road that had me jump into the other lane. There was nowhere for me to pullover to walk back and get them out of the way. So I'm leaving that to the clean-up crew I saw making its way down the road. Other than that, it was fine. Just some leaves and pinecones sitting in the road.

The rest of the way up to the observatory was great, as usual. The switchbacks leading up to the summit had some pine needles and such but, I think that'll be cleared by traffic and wind by the time Saturday rolls around. My traction control was losing its mind on those last few switchbacks, lol.

There are pine needles all over the place on the SJ side of the mountain. In some places it was enough to cover the road to where you can't see the lines. And it looks like it's time for the crews to get out and trim the trees back from the side of the road... whole lot of blind turns due to branches and such starting to creep in on my sight lines. Also, I noticed more loose dirt/gravel/dust in the corners on the SJ side of the mountain. But I think that's normal. I seem to notice that every time I do this drive.

Also, more generally; is it just my imagination or is the road more narrow on the SJ side than it is on the Livermore side? I felt like I was going to knock review mirrors off on cars, and an F250 surprised me as he came around a corner and I thought it was going to run me over.

Anyways...The road looks good for Saturday. There were a few clean up crews out there clearing away rocks and stuff that got knocked loose during the rains this past weekend. There wasn't much, but there was some. Again, sorry for not getting out to Del Puerto Canyon ->Patterson.

I hope everyone has fun at the event. Looking forward to seeing pictures!

Thanks for scouting the route @Mchilese
It just came to my attention that there is a bicycle event out of Patterson that will be coming down Del Puerto Canyon Rd this Saturday. For that reason I advise all drivers to avoid DPC and take a different route to the Junction. In any event please use caution as there may be a large group of cyclists out there during and after our event.
