DIY turbo setup
A year ago I went for a ride in a turbo BRZ and got addicted to the feeling of boost.
Six months ago I started buying parts. One week ago I got everything on the car and she ran for the first time. Since then I've been working on the tune, only running 6 lbs of boost currently but it feels great and hopefully I'll start turning it up soon.

Yes, all the welding was done by me, except for the aluminum since my TIG setup is DC current only.

Oh, and the turbo is a GTX2863R. And yes that is a stock header that I modified. I had originally intended to build the manifold from scratch, I had all the materials to do so but when I saw that the stock one ended up being in basically the perfect spot I figured I would save some time. Maybe in the future I'll redo the setup a little and make it a little nicer.
The air-to-water intercooler has been working pretty well so far, cruising on the highway the charge air temps are the same as ambient, under boost they end up being about 15 degrees Celsius above ambient depending on current/recent speed. The setup isn't totally finished, I'm still finishing up some stuff but it's perfectly drivable. Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk

10-12 psi is what I intend to have the base wastegate spring set to eventually, then use a boost controller to turn it up to 15 or so. But I will be needing a clutch before I can run that much boost.
I hope to get a boost controller on later this week, and start pushing it a little further than the 6psi it's currently at. One thing I'm interested in seeing is how far the stock fuel pump will take me on E85. I have a bigger fuel pump (DW300C I think?) waiting to go in once I find the limit of the stock one. Also hopefully I'll get it on a dyno pretty soon and can see some numbers and make more precise adjustments to the tune. Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk

This thread has already accomplished more work than the compound boost thread.

Just picked up a boost control solenoid from Cobb Tuning in Plano. It's for a '05 WRX but it just so happens that it's also a direct plug and play with the CPC connection on the twins.
And it may be another couple weeks before I get the car on a real dyno but here is some Virtual Dyno numbers. For comparison before the turbo when I was just E85/exhaust/tune I made 183 whp on a dyno jet and 191 whp on Virtual Dyno. Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk

Dyno time has been scheduled for later next week, I'll post results after it gets finished.
In the mean time I got the boost controller on the car, had to slightly drill the hole in the bracket to fit the bolt through but it pretty much mounts perfectly using the bracket for the brake vaccum line right next to the CPC connector. Tested it a little and at 50Hz and ~50% duty cycle it got the boost up from 1.4 to just over 1.6 bar absolute. Still working on the tune for the base wastegate pressure though so it won't see more boost for a while, probably not until it's on the dyno. Oh and here's what the engine bay looks like currently Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk

I wouldn't bother, especially if (as your profile states) you're in Kerrville. I'll probably be down there in a couple months to do a suicide run of the twisted sisters.
