Shuddering feeling when accelerating from a stop while turning

Hi there,

I purchased my used (30k miles) 2014 BRZ a few weeks ago and now that I'm getting accustomed to its quirks I've noticed one thing that I don't think is normal and was wondering if anyone here might have a suggestion about what it could be.

Basically, when accelerating from a dead stop while turning in first grade before shifting to second (not necessarily aggressive acceleration. I think it's particularly noticeable when slowly accelerating), there's a slight shuddering feeling that comes from the rear. It almost feels like I'm bogging the engine or grinding gears but it's not that because it happens at higher rpms and while shifting carefully to make sure it's not something simple like that.

I'm going to take it to a parking lot later and see if I can narrow it down a little more.

I'm planning on changing my transmission and differential fluid in the next few days. Not sure if I can expect that to help or not.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Perfectly normal. Torsen (Torque-sensing) differential locks up under acceleration. Enjoy your cool racecar!

It's a feature that should be noted in the owner's manual. IMO lots of concern over strange noises and sensations could be alleviated if manufacturers just had the courage to discuss them openly like they used to. Older guys will back me up on this.
