a good shift knob can change your life

bought a voodoo powdercoated shift knob and its awesome. not only is it an inch shorter, but the distribution of the weight makes it feel lower than that. the shape and weight and metal construction of them make it much easier to feel the gate correctly and the solid connection to each gear. for just over $50 shipped its a bargain!

Kartboy short shifter and a weighted/textured knob make a huge difference in the driving feel. Couldn't agree more.

I did the bushings as well, love them.

One of the few first mods I did was change out my knob for a heavier one. Felt great. Even better with I did the MTEC springs upgrade, each gear felt more "defined" or I could feel had it's own sections that I can move into.

Just did the bushings this weekend and now it feels lighter to move.

I did bushings, knob, springs and shortened the shift lever. No short shifter. Stock is short enough.

I was thinking about getting a short shifter. 1-4 is ok for me but 5-6 is brutal for me. Feels so far away.

I had short shifters. They come with their own problems and are hit n miss with actually feeling better. The other mods are simple, long lasting, maintainence free and guaranteed.

There's only one bushings that help with shifting feel?

The whiteline transmission mount bushing, perrin/torque solutions rear shift bushing and the mtec spring.

I've tried several knobs; the MTEC still feels the most natural to me.

Another life changer is a good steering wheel.

For me, lighter, taller, and larger diameter knob is better...so tall teardrop style Delrin knob is working well for me currently (while I am in the process of fixing/modifying the stock linkage that broke to be able to reinstall the CAE Ultra shifter.) But nothing, and I mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, compares to the CAE Ultra shifter for the 86 though... it is the ultimate shifter for an 86 using the stock transmission...PERIOD.
