Who has a drone?
I've been planning on buying a drone for some time now to use for videos and photography. Anyone here have experience with drones and what would you suggest? Things to look out for?
Right now I have my eyes on the Yuneec Q500 4k (leaning most to this one) or the dji phantom 3. |

The phantom II and later series are great birds for the beginner and very capable... Also figure your personal background and experience into the equation.
Last but not least don't forget the FAAs latest efforts if you will operate in the US... Ed |

I'm more into heli's myself, but from my experience repairing rc at a hobby shop, the Yuneec quads are not worth the money. They are not as easily repairable as other options (almost everyone crashes at some point). They are complex for no reason and a pain to take apart. The Blade Chroma comes with the same exact camera and remote, flies better, has better battery life, and is more easily repairable. Support tends to be better too. Probably the reason Yuneec's price has dropped to be about the same as the Chroma. The only thing the Yuneec has going for it is that it looks cooler and has a cool name.
As far as DJI goes, they seem to be pretty good. I haven't taken one apart, but they look like it should be fairly straightforward. We don't deal with them much at my shop because none of our primary distrubutors carry them. I would definately choose one of them over the Yuneec. |

Thanks. The reason why I was leaning towards the Yuneec was because of the Follow Me and Watch Me modes that is programmed into the drone. I will definitely keep your points in mind as the DJI is almost the same price as the Yuneec now and I have only heard great things about this brand.

I have a 110mm x-quad (SOS-X Wasp brushless) and I'm stuck getting my brain to process direction properly - I have no problems on the cars, just the quad. It's tiny, but I'm a stickler for safety and I'm flying indoors right now so... No auto modes or magic though.
To much thinking in the computer makes it tough to really get good. Kinda like those new 'vette drivers... Start small with something that has minimal nannies you can switch off. C |
