Getting a new transmission. New Clutch? Flywheel?
The dealer is giving me a new transmission and my friend that works there says they will install a new clutch on the car for free since the tranny is already out, I just need to buy the parts.
I only have 40 thousand miles on the clutch and always rev match for smooth shifts so I'm sure my old clutch is still good. Any reason to go aftermarket? I could get a lighter flywheel but I'm completely stock, no turbo, nothing. I can go stock clutch kit and have a brand new clutch installed for free since they're doing the transmission anyway. I'd just pay for the clutch parts. Or, I can just leave it alone and wait for the clutch to go bad, probably sometime after 100k miles. Thoughts? Thanks guys |

With the spotty history on the throw out bearings on these cars I would at least get that done. If the rest is good just leave it.

Definitely get the TOB changed, I'd suggest you try the ACT heavy duty one they make for our cars, haven't done so myself but they can't be worst than the oem one

I would recommend getting the Exedy stage 1 kit.

Exedy does make an "oem" clutch for our cars.

Lighter weight with less MOI flywheel is more useful on a stock motor than a heavily modified/turbo one...it will give you better engine/throttle response and make the car more tossible/precisely controllably. There is a OEM TRD (Japan) lightweight flywheel - 40% lighter than stock with a much lower MOI due to having mass removed from the outermost region near the gear ring, like the Toda one.

I'd second the recommendation on the Exedy stage 1. Pedal feels like stock with a lot more bite/clamping force. Plus the kit comes with a better TOB.
At 60k my clutch disc looked fine but the TOB seized up and I didn't wanna drop the transmission twice by chancing it with the stock clutch. I'd take advantage of not paying labor on dropping the trans and throw either the Exedy stg1 or ACT streetlite 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 trust you won't regret it |

if you're interested in going turbo/super later this would be a great time to get a clutch with plenty of buffer room in there. Even the stiffer pressure plates aren't that bad in these cars.
