Car Door edge guard protector problems

So I have these clear plastic car door trim edge guard protector things that came on the car when I bought it. They have something that looks like rust or maybe dirt underneath them. I was wondering if anyone else has these or has that problems. Is there a way I can fix this? I want to take them off but I dont want to take it off if it is rust and just be left with rusty door edges. Doesnt really bother me much but its somewhat of an eyesore every time I walk up to my car.

But you should take it off before it messes up your car

Damn what's the best way to take it off without messing up the paint? I might just leave it on because I'm scared it will look even worse with it off.

Yep, I agree, I would take them off and take my chances buffing off that residue.

How? I would slit the end of the plastic strip with a backed razor blade, then carefully peal them off.

If they are hard to peal off, a hair dryer may help.

Wow is it applied over rusted chips? Most of the discoloration should be just residue, but gotta take it off to make sure.

The shop that does that here says its just peel and stick as if its a huge phone screen protector. I say just slowly peel it off.
Better question is why is it rusted?

That I don't know. I'll try to peel it off and hopefully the brown stuff is only on the plastic

I took these off myself - it is just a thin film that sits on top of the paint and can be peeled off. Just spray the area with quick retailer for some lubrication and use your nail to gently pry up an edge. After that you just peel it off slowly and it comes right off.

I would definitely take it off - not only does it look awful, but it is keeping all of that dirt and crap sitting on your (white) paint, and that might end up staining it if not addressed.

Do you have one on your hood too? Mine has them on the doors, mirrors, quarter way the hood fenders. I was fussing with it today trying to get the dirt out the edge. Just use my thumb nail. Zooming in on your pics, it looks like mildew under the plastic. Yank it off. I'd yank mine if it started getting that way
