First Timer... Be gentle

So I bought an OFT from Shiv, flashed the new stage 1, 93 octane tune and have been driving on it for several hundred miles now. Tonight I was bored so I decided to go out driving to refill my gas at the only 93 no-ethanol station around here and see what it did for the infamous crickets. I took the OFT along to do some of this "data-logging" I always read about on here.

First let me mention that it was 38 degrees out and it has been raining all day, so I jumped in and plugged in the OFT and started the car. The cable that comes with the OFT does not make it easy to mount the thing without the cable hitting your leg and I more than likely won't leave it mounted, so masking tape became my ghetto-mount for the night.

Here are my logs from several pulls and a few easy 50mph cruise control sessions over the course of an hour. I know they probably aren't optimal logs being that I don't know the actual process for generating the information needed in the shortest log possible, but anytime I didnt see any other cars I tried to get on it as much as I could.

BRZ_Logs.zip

Unfortunately, the GoGas Station that I was going to has decided that not enough people buy ethanol-free gas and no longer carries 93 octane at all now... Super bummed... I filled up with "up-to-10%" ethanol 93 octane at another station and did a few more runs which are included in the above zip file.

Hoping someone awesome out there is bored enough to take a look at the logs and let me know if they see any issues. Only mods so far are slave cylinder swap for better clutch pedal feel, K&N drop in filter, and Invidia N1 Cat-back.

People have theorized that the ethanol that's present in most gas is what causes the crickets. That's what he's saying - he's trying to remedy that.

Correct, most of my buddies were running the 93 "pure" gas from this station and it completely got rid of their crickets. I ran the fuel for a while several months ago, but didn't notice any difference in power between it and regular fuel on the butt dyno. Unfortunately, I wasn't paying attention to crickets until recently and they have started to drive me crazy. I was going out tonight to run my fuel down to the last gallon and then planned on filling the tank with the pure gas to see if it fixed my crickets.

Ahhh I see. I did find different gas had a different effect on how often I used to get crickets. Sad story time: I forgot to feed them once and they all died on me since then I have not heard them.

Dont bother waste your time trying to fix the crickets. Its just a waste of time haha! They eventually went away for me I run 94 that has all least 10% E in it.

@18k miles now and they are louder than ever. Can't really ignore them with plans of making this a show car. Going to try a few of the 2-stroke oil, and additive options that have been posted next.

The crickets were just the excuse for the drive anyways, I really went out to get the logs and see if everything is running right.

You could try lucus upper cylinder lubricant. I ran that at one point for a bit and it seemed to help keep them to a minimum. The crickets are fun, when your at car shows you can tell everyone your car is powered by crickets lol. We always used to joke about them at all the car meets I go to, it was good fun

Unless I go FI, I probably won't leave it mounted, I just used the masking tape as a temporary fix. I've looked at Steelie Balls before for my phone, but couldn't stand having the mount permanently attached to my phone like that. Thanks for the post though.

Can someone knowledgeable take a look at my logs and give some input lol, we're talking about everything except the intent of the post

Crickets are due to ethalol

Weird thing is about 10 % ethanol causes rickets but higher consentrations like e85 they go quiet no problem it wont blow up its just annoying ethanol is a great solvent and burns clean wil actually clean everything up

Im happy to pook at your logs if you plst them up to datazap.me site the graphs are heaps easier and quicker to read.

Take a look at the ECU LOGGING link below will tell you some basics

Then post up lovs to datazap.me
