Drove around with filter tabs undone - any issues I should look out for?

Just discovered today as I was topping off liquids that I have been driving with the two metal tabs unbuckled on my intake. Vaguely remember undoing them about 500km ago during some maintenance. Thank goodness I noticed today, who knows how long it could've gone for.

AFAIK, tabs are there for pressure for perfect seal. Without them, the filter still held in place quite fine, anything large would've been picked up - what I'm wondering is do you think dust would have come in from the top, given the vacuum environment and that part being the weakest part of the seal when unbuckled?

Cheers.

I think you're fine. The filter gets sucked in pretty well from the vacuum, which prob created a pretty good seal.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Heck, back in day, some of us just ran with little chrome bonnets on the tops of carburetors ...... looked cool .... sounded cool ...... kept the birds out .....
