I'd hazard a guess that a lot of people who shopped the Twins for a small, lightweight, RWD sporty car that wasn't crazy expensive were people who have previously owned S2000s. Of those, quite a few have found out that they prefer the S2000 over the Twins and thus have decided to go back to that platform. There's nothing wrong with the Twins, they're good cars and you can have one new with a warranty. With that being said, I'm a former S2000 owner and after owning my FR-S for over a year now, I prefer the S2000 and have decided to go back to one. The hard part is finding one that isn't beat up and isn't over 20K. If money was unlimited, I'd probably keep the FR-S too.

Ended up getting a hand-me-down dd from the family and a cousin offered to let me take one of his track cars out when I'm in Taiwan. Thanks for all the input though.
Hope to see you all out at track soon!

The only thing I miss about my AP1 was the power... and that power was my primary complaint when I owned the car.

I may have an opportunity to purchase a 2004 Rio Yellow with 6,000 miles. The owner is a work associate who is the original owner. She isn't really what you would call an enthusiast and the car is completely stock. Thoughts on a fair price?

That's some crazy low miles. $20-25k. Does it need work? Was it well maintained? 10 years with no maintenance is worse for a car than 100k miles and good maintenance.

Lowball her at $15K. Say that men usually don't drive yellow cars but you like hers.

That's easily a $22k+ car. Put up some feelers for her on various forums/sales pages, and you'll get a better idea.

Been reading this thread for a while now and been waiting even longer to be able to hype the 86 over an S2000.
This was last month but check out 24min-34min mark. Last years champ in his CR...sure, he missed a shift, but he stayed behind us the rest of the way Finally! [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5f-fCfZExI"]2015 TSF rd.1 - YouTube[/ame] |

I've been having this internal debate in my head since last year whether the 86 could ever live up to the craziness of the s2000 and here is the one thing I realized: the s2000 is Honda's flagship sports car, while the 86 is an entry level sports car that Toyota/Subaru don't actually want to make any faster or else it threatens higher up models (mainly the WRX/STi).
It all started when there was a conversation (more or less a joke, I think) going around on my facebook about the 86 being moved from STX to STR, which would basically put me in with a whole bunch of s2000's. I looked at the times of my local scca chapter and the STR s2000's were doing about what the STX crowd was doing so I wasn't too worried. but then I looked at the ProSolo cars and the s2000's were easily 2 seconds faster than the fastest 86. So it's led me to wonder basically what most of people have stated on here: how would the 86 fair if it was at the same point in development, and also 240hp like the s2000. Whereas the s2000 is more adjustable and raceable out of the box, I truly believe if they were prepared equally that the 86 would be superior due to 1) lower center of gravity because boxer, and 2) it's not a convertible (ie. structurally better). After watching a NASA race at mid ohio last weekend, however, there's definitely a lot more hondas racing than 86's, so you're definitely going to have more competition, therefore a lot more fun. On the contrary, as far as autocross goes, every single STR car was an s2000, whereas STX was filled with old bmws, hondas, 86's, etc so it was more diverse crowd and fun to watch a 20 year old bmw beat your brand new $30k BRZ haha. My local STX class is filling up with more 86's which will be more fun to compete with. It was a nail biter the last event! TL;DR I'd get the s2000 right now if you're planning on using it primarily to race, but beware because as the 86 develops it will be nipping at the s2000's heels and soon you'll want back into an 86.
