All I can comment on is my experience. I have nothing but flawless shifting wit MT-90. It hasn't made the little grind sound at all since I put it in. It's been in nearly one year now.

My transmission has always been smooth, but this i noticed a couple of days ago and it really irritated me. Brand new car and transmission is messed up. I am going to try to go to subaru to see what they say.

My 2006 sti is paid for and i should amost break even on the brz. We shall see man, i had really high hopes for this car. The steering and handling is excellent transmission leaves a lot to be desired.

This is really disappointing. My '14 FRS w/ ~11k miles on it has started this "grind"/"crunch" on 3-4th gear shifts and even 5th-4th gear rev matched down shifts. This sucks b/c my dealership sucks and I'm gonna have to convince them of this issue again. It was a major pia to convince them to replace the fuel pump and now this. Frustrating.

How long does transmission replacement work take? couple of days?

Bought my car used at 26k miles, started getting grind from 3rd to 4th when shifting over 4k RPM, worse with higher RPM. Covered under warranty with a new transmission. Trans was ordered Saturday, dropped my car off Monday, picked it up Wednesday. They were not backordered at the time, but the service rep said the transmissions are frequently on backorder.

Once they have the transmission, it should take them two days.

My dealer insists this is totally normal. I honestly don't think they even tested it. One of these days I'll get them to do a ride along.

Phobos512 that stinks; I hope my dealership doesn't take the same position. It's NOT normal because it wasn't happening during the 10k miles that I drove it. Perhaps try different dealership in your area??

Ron Good to know it takes only couple of days if part is in stock.

Just to document the issue during the test drive, I'll keep my dashcam turned on.

Contact corporate, look for service reps on Subaru forums and find a higher-up contact. The issue is 100% not normal. The grind is from the 4th gear syncro failing and not being able to properly match trans speed when shifting during higher RPM.

Not sure how bad yours is, but mine made a very audible grinding sound when shifting to 4th.
