To Greddy Turbo Owners (or SBD/Zage Turbo).... Melted Radiator Fans? General Opinion?
I'm seriously thinking about adding FI into my FR-S and am looking closely at Greddy Turbo kits.
But I was reading this post here and this poster said under constant, heavy usage, Greddy Turbo's have the tendency to melt stock radiator fans (see image below). He said this might be due to the wiring of the fan being close to the Turbo manifold. So to all Greddy Turbo owners (or Speed By Design/Zage Turbos since they're so similar), have you experienced anything like this? Also, in general what is your opinion of those kits and how many miles have you had the kits installed? |

i understand that this fan was burned in this pick was because the greddy owner overspooled the turbo.
i would get the sbd its cheaper and you get the same performance or around there

over spooled? is that a thing?
Just about any turbo kit will benefit from some slim fans. I do believe this is a example of one photo making rounds and is not a good example of what most people experience. I have installed a handful of SBD kits and am not a fan, missing parts, low quality.

full blown motorsports offer a dual spal slim fan setup to help with this. you can also make brackets to move the radiator forward a few inches. Lasstly a good ceramic coating, heatwrap and turbo blanket will help keep the hot parts hot and cold cold.

I run the greddy Kit and have not melted my fbm cooling system yet and it has been on the track with back to back hot laps. You can always buy thermal wrap for wires if you are worried. 15k miles on the Kit daily driven

Out of curiosity, are the people reporting the melting of their fan shrouds using turbo blankets? I ordered the PTP "lava blanket" it is supposed to reduce the radiant heat down to 110 F. Basically no difference than an NA engine bay normal temperature.

I'm patiently holding out to see if greddy redesigns or does anything different with their turbo kits now that they have partnered with garrett turbos. Probably just swapping turbos but they may be addressing the issue, we'll see.

I went with the SBD/ZAGE kit because the price is right, zero complaints related to quality, heating issues are easily resolved with PTP's LAVA blanket and Wraps. It just seemed like a no brainer.

After calling and speaking to PTP directly, I ordered the PTP LAVA blanket for T25/T28 Turbos. You can order the Subaru WRX blanket as well but the fitment and coverage are not as good for the SBD/ZAGE turbo with the internal wastegate. I'll post picks in my build thread very soon.
