My experience with miatas is meager, but one test session at track (thus with mandatory helmet) in NC MX5 still is remembered, that while there might be issues with lacking headroom/space/practicality in twins, miatas seem to have it way worse (which affected my car choice back then). Pity, by some accounts i even liked MX5 more .. but it was certainly less fit as only car. And even for track .. mentioned headroom, ability to bring 4 wheels with lowered rear seats in twins to track w/o using trailer should not be underestimated in overall usability.

Oh, I didn't realize the impossible part.
Can you elaborate why it's impossible? I don't see it in the previous posts.

Yes, understandable; especially if it's impossible to make a thinner one.
Besides feedback, I also wanted to give the overview of my experience,
so that other potential buyers know what to expect.

Yup, I'm exploring that too

The OEM shaft itself is 25mm and you need to be able to put a bolt on it, then a structure to hold the new spline, then the new spline itself. The most we could shorten any of our spacers is maybe 5mm.

Any fitment on 2017+ GT86 Automatic cars? The extension harness sell together with spacer from 949 is just for buttons, not including the paddel shifter, right?
Do we need to have extension harness to keep the paddel shufter?

We still haven't had the opportunity to test on an automatic. The wiring harness extension should work and retain all steering wheel buttons, but if the paddle shifters have their own harness/separate connector then you may need an additional solution.

In the case of a second harness/wiring for the paddle shifters, it's possible that wiring is long enough to reach without modification so in that case it wouldn't affect operation of the paddles.

The steering wheel looks identical to the 2017-2020 wheel, so there’s a good chance it’ll work on the 2022s

We expect this to fit the second gens, though we will see if the wiring situation is different.

If they changed the spline they surely changed it to the new style Toyota spline, which we also have a spacer for, so no worries, we'll have the 2nd gen covered for sure.

For anyone following this thread - we have spacers for BMW, Audi, VW, Mazda, Lexus, and a few others available - not just the 86. Email us at info@949racing.com if you want a spacer for something you don't see available on our site.

Probably the single best thing I've done to the car has been this spacer. Now if only there was a shifter extension too.

I fantasize about some sort of linkage. That empty spot in the console looks like a nice place for a ball joint.
