Actually, it may not, at least that has been my experience. Last time we had to change ours, I ended up with the higher end one from Insinkerator that is 1HP and will handle bones. It's also very quiet which is nice. It is almost 12 years old and it still grinds like it was new, even after a kitchen renovation.

TIL:

It's great to do any work which requires interior trim removal when it's 95F out because all of the plastic clips pop out with next to no effort.

Also:

It's terrible to do any work which requires interior trim removal when it's 95F out because it's ninety-friggen-five degrees Fahrenheit. Also the plastic clips easily deform and nothing goes back together properly. That is if it was together properly in the first place, but I never think about that until after I've taken everything apart.

I got the picture -

Did you have to cut the legs off to get it under the sink?

about how the last two days have gone for me.

i changed the oil in both vehicles last night, and figured it was going so smoothly, at 8:00 at night, i started working on the rangers running boards that are rusted out. every single bolt for the oem rusted out running boards came out, zero problems, never even needed a breaker bar. but then the front mud flaps are held on with tiny little bolts over the top of the running board brackets. and those bolts rounded off as soon as i breathed on them. so now the entire project is on hold while i order some bolt extractors.

while i could go to harbor freight for the extractors, all this extra work has given me ideas, and now there's an order for bolt extractors and bright red rally armor mud flaps scheduled to go on the truck.

so a 30 minute project has turned into a 2 week ordeal over 2 8mm bolts.

so being that i'm avoiding the outside projects, i figured i'd try to finish my bathroom that i started remodeling 2 years ago. needed to hang a mirror, paint the trim, and finish a custom medicine/vanity cabinet.

hung the mirror first, which cracked across one corner because the wall was bowed. then tried painting the trim, got irritated at the brush stroke lines, so ran and got some plastic and a sprayer. spent the last hour covering the floor, realized the day is 3/4's over, and i'd need to do at least 2 coats, tore it all up.

so now i'm burning time in the a/c so i don't have to do anything else...

I'm spoiled rotten. 78 degrees here but it's muggy. My inefficient old heat pump and drafty house sure feels nice.

Well, soundman98, first off, you are trying to do too many things in one day. My motto is "no more than one extra thing a day".

About the running board bolts, of course they came right out, the running board is all rusted away - they just fell out.

About the two stubborn bolts. What's with the bolt extractors? Bubba suggests the tools shown below.

BATHROOM! NEVER start (or continue) on a bathroom project in the middle of the day - sheesh!

However, I see you FINALLY came to your senses and are kicked back in front of the A/C -

Yes, please do not cut down anymore. I love heavily wooded lots. They make for very pretty houses (provided they're maintained well). There's a house around here I've passed a few times that has a yard like that and I absolutely love it.

His place is a little slice of heaven, even with him there.

I don't own bolt extractors, but if the screw is easy enough to strip then you can just drill at it with drillbits or even a variety of screw bits. There's an art in using tools the way they're not meant to be used.

My condo was built in the 70s, but the kids of the people that lived here before remodeled it before selling it. They put the cheapest everything in it, but at least everything was new except the washer and dryer (which promptly needed replacing, much to my chagrin). I doubt the disposal was ever swapped out, though. It might be the original. Noisy damn thing. Shakes the whole counter and rattles anything in or near the sink.

it's an 8mm bolt. i was trying to pound a 7mm socket onto it. but it was then 9:30 at night, so i was using a deadblow, and trying to be a little quiet so i'm not bothering the neighbors too much!

i've got plenty of drill bits, and a grinder if need be. i'm mostly curious if a bolt extractor will work.

Screws are not classified by the sizes of their heads. A screw with an 8 mm hex head is most likely 5 mm.

6 mm screws typically have 10 mm hex heads.
