Anyone using WRX scavenge pump? How modify it to work with plate?

I'm coming up empty on finding a whole lot of info about using the WRX scavenge pump on the BRZ. I'm creating a custom turbo kit based off the PTuning kit and using a MGT2259 from a '17 WRX down low, so I'll need a scavenge pump. I couldn't find anyone selling the adapter plate by itself, and after getting a prototype designed and printed I'm realizing the pump needs modified since the 1/4" plate will bump it out enough that it doesn't engage with the cam. Does anyone have experience with this? I'm between two options: weld an extension on the cup that engages with the cam and risk an imbalance, or press out that cup from the pump guts and risk hurting that $200 pump.

Printed prototype that will be cut out of steel:

Can I press the center part out a bit (darker metal on right-side piece)?

Thanks in advance!

And for any of those interested, here's an album of the progress so far:

I'd just design a part that interfaces the pump's cup and the cam, that seems easier and less risky than the alternatives.

I would ask AVO. I am using their cam driven scavenge pump on my turbo setup now and it's incredible, it looked like it matched the WRX pump I planned on using to make my own before I realized I could just get it from AVO.

Solidsnake11 made one but probably yoinked his information about it.

I found the AVO one, but they wanted $500 for the pump and plate when the pump is only $200. Reached out to PTuning and they're not willing to sell the parts separately.

DarkPira7e, Are you able to see what they did to modify the pump? I wonder it their plate is thin enough that it still engages, but it's obviously been chucked in a mill at some point bc the subaru logo as been taken off.

I'll hit it with the calipers and see. I just installed it Sunday, should've taken more photos of it turn apart. It didn't really look like much, if anything, had been done so I didn't consider it

EDIT: Also, I found SS11's post. I screenshotted in case he tries to yeet it

Thanks for finding that! I remember coming across that at some point, too. I enjoyed going through your build thread, I'm glad I'm trying to go this direction first instead of making an electric pump work. I feel like a mechanical OE pump is going to be more reliable, as well as not having to dump into the pan.

Not only is the cam driven scavenge pump more reliable, it works better as an oil return. It's also not noisy and just... WORKS. No need to wire anything or make mounts/provisions

My biggest fear is an electric pump quits working and there's no way to tell. I'm just super surprised I can't find a whole lot of people going with this option. I appreciate your help!

Make the plate yourself. There are enough info and pictures to figure out everything.

Hmmm so same as the 1/4" plate that I got. Thanks for checking!

Got the plate cut out and mocked up yesterday:

The plate is the easy part, where I'm hung up is how to modify the pump now that the 1/4" plate bumps the pump away from the cam enough that it doesn't engage well. Basically need to extend that slotted cup 1/4" closer to the cam. And, no, there's not a lot of info out there to figure it out solely off that information alone. I had to reverse engineer everything based off my existing plate and dimension the pump holes myself. Took a lot of trial and error, but having a 3d printer allowed me to make several test pieces so I only had to cut of out of steel once.

Anyone using WRX scavenge pump? How modify it to work with plate?

Ptuning machines the back side of the pump to allow it to sit through the mounting plate a bit further. From pictures it looks like AVO is doing the same. Here is the best pic I can find from when I was running their pump with my custom setup. Luckily at that time they were willing to sell me just the pump and mounting plate for a reasonable price. If you look at the area pointed out below you can see how much material was removed compared to your unmodified pump. That little tab sits flush to the plate.

This makes sense as to why I don't recall anything being strange with the bracket. Good insight

Ahhh perfect! I was starting to wonder if that's what was machined when I was looking at one of the pics, thanks for verifying that!

I even asked PTuning if they'd sell me just those two parts, they said no. They also said "by the way, you'll need to modify the pump" and wouldn't go into any further detail So that's what started me down this rabbit hole. Now to find a machinist!
