Bilstein B6 B8 rear strut assembly
Hey guys,
This might be really simple, but I'm a first-timer. There's a 'ring' around the damper shaft that the perch sits on. But I noticed the perch has a groove cut in it which the 'ring' could fit in so it doesn't slide up and down. But I could also see the spring, when installed, applying enough pressure that the perch just sits on the 'ring'. Do I need to remove the ring, install it in the perch, then slide it down? Or does the perch just rest on the ring, on damper? EDIT: IT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED with BILSTEIN USA that the spring seat sits on the ring. Last edited by Firestorm_86; 08-19-2014 at 06:49 PM. |

It looks like a snap ring. "Squeeze" the ring so it's flush on the damper, push down the perch, and it'll "pop" into place and lock the perch.

It just rests on the ring. Bilstein has been doing this for decades (many of their shocks have multiple spots to put the ring on the shock to allow you to lower the car).
If in doubt though, there should have been directions that came with the shocks. |

I won't be able to get it off after that though. And I'd really hate for that to be the wrong way... Quote:
I've reached out to Bilstein: IT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED with BILSTEIN USA that the spring seat sits on the ring. Last edited by Firestorm_86; 08-19-2014 at 06:50 PM. |
