Turning off manual brz with push to start

Do I have to hold in the clutch when turning off my car?

Nope, only when starting the car. I always try to make sure the car is in neutral with the ebrake on before pushing the button to turn the car off.

Then put it in either reverse (downhill) or 1st gear (uphill) afterwards.

Does shutting it off in gear hurt? Not that I've ever done it. Just curious.

What if you get leg cramps before you manage to hit the button?

I shut off my car in gear in the pit and avoid ebrake but that's the only time I do it. I don't know if it's good for the car though. just make sure you double check your stick position before turning on the car.

You can turn the car off whenever you want, with the pedals in whatever positions you want. The only way it will hurt your car is if you turn it off while rolling, because then the steering could lock if the car isn't in "run mode" and you could crash into a house before you can stop.

No, unless you're rolling.

Stick position shouldn't matter until you actually start to move the car, since you can't start the car without pushing the clutch.

6 mph in first gear at 1000-1100 rpm on flat ground. Below that, you'll lug the engine. You have to use a light foot to hold that speed.

The car knows when it's in motion, and I would be really surprised if the steering will lock while rolling. What if you had an engine failure? That would be a recipe for news coverage and lawsuits.

If you have an engine failure, the key is still in the run position, and the vehicle continues to operate in that mode, as best as it can. It's an entirely different situation if you turn the key back to 'ACC' or 'OFF'. THAT is what could cause the steering to lock.

No it isn't. It's in my pocket. Per the thread title, we're talking about push button start.

It still operates under the same principles. If the engine stalls, the car stays in "run." If you turn the key, or press the button, then you are forcing the car out of run mode.

I also looked at the Owner's Manual. It looks like the steering lock function won't engage until you open a door. So that's one less thing you need to worry about. You'd still lose power brakes and power steering but at least the car is driveable.

This is not true, I have done it many times. While driving, if you pop the car into neutral, and push the button 3 times, the engine will shut off, but you still have full control over the steering, without the power assist of course. In fact, the steering wheel will not lock even after parked until you open the door. If you turn the car off with the door closed, and then open the door, you can hear the wheel locking.
