Any feedback on the Jackson Racing unit? Not the radiator\oil cooler combo but the oil cooler they offer?

Anything JR is good quality. You will have no worries going that route.

Great kit. Plug and play, and doesn't mount to the bottom. This is important if you have an unwanted off-track excursion; you don't want to rip off your oil cooler.

Do you have a thread about the mounting bracket you worked out for this?

It doesn't always work like this unfortunately, especially with maintenance, reliability, or safety items.

In many cases, it's an either or scenario. As in...it does the job effectively, or it does not do the job effectively.

Speaking broadly (not just about oil coolers or any brand names), for some parts there is NO in between for success and failure. Or alternatively a part might work...until it doesn't and the consequences are substantial.

Function over a short time scale is one thing. Sometimes the value added is convenience, ease-of-installation, your time, after-sale support, compatibility with other parts, reliability, etc.. It's up to you to decide how much that is worth.

This doesn't mean you can put together your own kit that is just as good as the really nice off-the-shelf stuff. Some of y'all have serious skills and that's awesome. It just takes time, knowledge, serious attention to detail, and risk. The risk changes depending on the part, but with something like an oil-cooler it's a bit more.

No. At the time, I shared a few photos of my plans and they were met with skepticism. I figured no one was interested in where I was going.

If you decide to try it for yourself, beware of the asymmetry of the bracket positions. I blew it the first try because I made a bad assumption.

Really??

Setrab 19 row: $186
https://www.amazon.com/Setrab-ProLin.../dp/B00TO6BU5K

fittings for oil cooler:$68 (qty 2, 34 each)
https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/pr...gaAv8PEALw_wcB

RacerX Fab Sandwich plate, spacer, and fittings: $145
http://racerxfabrication.com/frs-brz...-adapter-plate

Aeroquip -10an hose 15ft: $80
https://www.amazon.com/Aeroquip-FCN1.../dp/B000CII15Q

2 remainder fittings to go on sandwich plate (BAT inc/Mocal): -10AN P45-10 $16.80x2
https://irp-cdn.multiscreensite.com/...ed/phosend.pdf
https://www.batinc.net/#PRODUCTS

miscellaneous hardware/brackets: ~~~ whatever you want

about 515 dollars.

This setup is very similar setup to what I have, except I have a mishimoto core. I have had ZERO issues with my core, but that's the only mishimoto thing on my car. I didn't want setrab because it was black and I wanted an oil cooler with no coating due to this video:

[ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_mmmXTbLP0[/ame]

you're welcome.

Edit: you can do alot of this for cheaper, but honestly, I wouldn't settle on any of the "fragola" or amazon generic fittings... some of those things are like 6.99 or cheaper.. Oil is a very important necessity for your engine. I wouldn't cheap out on that. At the very least get these name brands mentioned in this post for an inexpensive DIY setup. Like as others have said, you can definitely do it for WAY cheaper... 100 dollar oil cooler? or multi-thousand dollar engine rebuild? spend the few extra couple hundred bucks making a decent one and you'll be happy you did.

A lot of folks in this thread seem to be missing that the application-specific IP for an engine oil cooler is the MOUNTING BRACKET, which if you are building your own instead of using a kit requires you to fab yourself. Sure you can jank something together with L-channel from Home Depot, but it is not going to perform as well as a tested design. If you're a skilled fabricator, by all means go for it, but to suggest throwing something together yourself is a superior alternative to a branded application-specific kit simply due to cost is ignorant to the point of absurdity.

Not really, you just need to order brackets from a company that has a kit with the same core as you have. For example with a 613/19 core you could use racer-x crash bar or bumper mounts, or if you want the bling use the Perrin mounts.

If you have the Setrab core that Jackson racing uses you would want to use their brackets. Jackson racing even offered to custom rig their intercooler mounts for my 613 core when I was researching all of this.

All of the options I mentioned are sold separately from their kits. Some require a phone call or email.

Edit: It actually seems you can only put 613 setrab cores or similar on the racer-x/perrin bumper mounts, 619 needs the crash beam support.

https://www.scintex.com.au/products/...amping-showers

I might trial a 30 or 60 row, from a rough guesstimate, using my thumb as a measuring tool, a 30 plate is twice the size as the forester, and a 60 is 4 times.

Should bring up temps nixe and quick and control oil temps well.

Well, in theory, using my thumb as a measuring tool

It's simular to this > https://www.pwr.com.au/products/oilc...ne-oil-coolers only cheaper

Will need sandwich plate, lines and fittings

Specs look good

If I do I'll post up
