Hopefully this tracking of your car isn't detected by the black box and the dealership voids your warranty.

1-go to an AUTO-X
2-go to DE event
3-repet 1 and 2 as often as you can
4-learn car control
5-start to have fun and be safe all at the same time.

Maybe the OP did the same thing I did. I was coming into a turn, downshifted to 2nd, somehow hit the TC botton (seriously, I think the location is horrible! Especially for manual drivers), and the back end kicked out while I was giving a little too much throttle.

As others have said, with TC on, it is almost impossible to kick the back end out. I tried yesterday and almost broke my finger steering because the TC was actually on and I was expecting the back end to kick out, so I started counter steering. Conditions: dry roads, stock Primacy tires, cold weather.

The other day, it was 10 degrees Fahrenheit and my back end was sliding left and right after flooring it on a right turn. Luckily, I was able to keep the car pretty straight for the most part without issue. And this was with all the nannies on. Almost reminded me of torque steer, but with more control

I've had the car slide for 2-3 with TC on....depending on how slippery it is outside.

Its possible that it slid for ~1-2 seconds on a rough shift before TC caught it, OP panicked and overcorrected.

It is possible. Actually I found it hard to correct with the TC on. I got into a slide, I pressed the throttle and the TC just killed everything I ended up stopped sideways on the off ramp.

If you actually correct the slide the TCS just seems to freak the fuck out and take the throttle away from you.

Maybe your next mod should be different tires...

Is this your first manual shift car? Sometimes when people are new to driving a stick they worry they aren't going fast enough for the next gear (car bucking or "dogging" from low rpms) so they accelerate too much as they upshift without realizing they're doing it. In a situation such as this, it was just a little too much acceleration for the terrain, had you been solidly in gear you would have eased back on the throttle when the slide first started (unless you were looking to drift). Keep this in mind next time it's raining, you may want to shift earlier to regulate your speed better.

Are your back tires worn really bad? Otherwise, I am with others here, with TC on this seems really unlikely. I have driven my BRZ through some bad weather and could not make my car slide like that even if I was trying with the nannies enabled.

I've slid mine with the TC on (mind you I have an AT). The TC doesn't totally prevent it, it just helps correct it, in theory at least.

Heck, just this past Wednesday I managed to do sideways S-turns all the way down an on-ramp to I20 in Atlanta. Of course, there was about 2 inches of ice and snow on the ramp which helped!

TC isn't god, you'll still slide if the reaction is big enough.

Based on the pic you posted, I'm going to guess it was due to balding tires:

Your local tire or auto parts store, maybe even dealership, should offer tire tread gauges for you. I have a card that has a yellow CAUTION zone and red REPLACE TIRES zone. Cost 99 cents and very handy. Couldn't find a pic of it since I got it years ago and it was probably discontinued but it works something like this:

If you find it was due to your tires, replace them ASAP before something tragic happens.

Junk tires and hard shifting is what caused you to nearly wreck. Also if it hasn't rained in a while there is a build up of oils and other substances on the road. A bit of rain and they can get slick.

Go buy new tires, go to a driving school, don't drive like a madman.
