Meeksites!
Yeah, I said it. The new twins are just plain fugly. I held my tongue until I finally saw one in the flesh.
They look like Mazdas, a bit bulbous and ungainly. It's a shame since they're superior in almost every other way to the first gen. I still walk away from my 2013 FRS, turn back and look, and say, "Daaaaaammmn..." I'd walk away from the 2022 twins, turn back and look, and say, "God damn it!" I'm not against owning ugly cars. I own a Model Y. I'm just against taking a pretty car and making it ugly.

I don’t know if you’re familiar with video games. I’ll say it anyways.
The original Pokémon Red and Blue Version was released on September 28, 1998 for the Game Boy. Even to this day after many advances in graphic design and game consoles and Pokémon versions later there are still hardcore believers that the original Pokémon Red and Blue (fine…Yellow version too) are still the best Pokémon games and all other subsequent versions are “trash.” But the numbers speak for themselves…Pokemon games bring in a lot of money despite the opinion of it not being as great as the 1st generation as a number of die-hard gen one Pokémon game lovers would say. I recently did a poll on the Facebook page of the 2nd Gen Owners/Enthusiasts. There were more people in that group who have never owned a 1st Gen. At my dealership, all of the 2022 BRZ’s we’ve sold (4 of them) were to people who never considered the 1st Gen. Toyota and Subaru did something right with this car. You may not like the styling, but the car is generating a lot of interest. You may look back at your Scion and say “daaaaaaamn” The reviewers said “daaaaaaaaaamn” when they test drove the car for the first time. As we speak, the guys at Toyota and Subaru are probably saying “daaaaaaaamn” at the success of these cars.

It's hard to estimate how popular the new twins are going to be. In 2013, they flew off the lots and a local Subaru dealer was selling a BRZ for 8k over sticker. I know they're popular, but will it last? How about when the new Datsun comes out?
But really, comparing these cars to Pokemon?

The MkII looks about as good as the kouki 86 and better than the FR-S, and personal preferences aside, one would have a hard time arguing that the MkII doesn't have a sound design basis, it might be a milder in it's implementation, but on the strength of that it will age better.
Meanwhile, the new Z does not have one single angle from which it even looks decent. |

aesthetics are subjective. some people hated the looks of the first gen with the mouthguard front of the brz to the angry frog face of the kouki 86 and finds the second gen looking more "sporty". I have to admit, the looks have grown on me (for the 86) however I still dislike the tailights of the second gens. having functional vents vs fake vents and all the chassis improvements and refined engine are all wins in my book and I am seriously considering reverting a bunch of stuff to stock and selling to get a second gen in 2 years once i pay off this first gen

The front end was solid on the first gens. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. The first gen is no design classic. The stock taillights look like cheap, late 90s Altezza knock offs, the wheels are plain awful. And the whatever plate thing on front quarter panels is awkward and fugly. Owned the first gen, have the second gen and the only thing i liked better about my '13 was the steering wheel.

Weird, I think the new ones look way better than the old ones.

Totally agree . So now that it's settled the first gen is uglier and doesn't have an engine, want to race?... lol. You'll love it when you get it. Promise. Enjoy your day, dude.
