Boosting my FR-S

Hi guys,
I am completely new when it comes to boosting cars so I need help boosting my stock FR-S. I have decided that I want to turbocharge my car and I would like to have around 400+ HP but no more than 500hp and similar amount of torque. Sorry if I ask obvious questions but I'm new so I don't know much when it comes to boosting. So, my questions are:

1) Which turbo kit is ideal for my car to output 400+ whp (but less than 500hp) and similar torque without having a lot of risk of blowing up the engine? I've heard fullblown turbo kits are nice but is there anything else that has better bang for the buck?

2) What is a safe PSI for the recommended turbo kit? Does having more PSI have an effect on the engine?

3) Should I run E85 or premium gas? I believe most of you would say E85 but I want to know what differences would I experience with these types.

4) Are there any other parts that I have to upgrade other than the turbo kit so that my car doesn't break down? If so, which ones are really required so that I don't risk having broken parts or blowing up the engine?

5) Would installing the Invidia N1 full exhaust help with the boosting process? (I really like the sound of this)

Please help me with these questions as this would be the first car that I'm ever going to have a turbo installed on.
Thanks

For 400+ reliable horsepower, you better budget in some internal engine parts. As far as who can do it, talk to Full Blown, MA Performance, P&L Performance, AVO, any number of forum sponsors. They can all get there.

Lots to learn for sure, but there is some great info on here. You can also email me directly at ipeterson@maperformance.com with any questions you might have.

Your head is in the right place but you're very risk adverse...

To start out there's no way to boost the stock FA20 completely eliminating the risk of catastrophic engine failure. Naturally Aspirated FA20's fail due to oiling issues. Spend some time here and read up.

5-6psi is "safe" (in my opinion, based on my reading of threads here) but won't get you anywhere near 400whp. Making reliable power at those levels and above means putting in new rods, making oiling system and cooling modifications.

Visit owners threads, read up, introduce yourself and ask questions. Your journey is just beginning.

400 whp will require either e85 all the time or a built engine. Even on e85 it could still blow up.

400 whp will eventually kill the transmission. I did at 450. Then I killed another one. My car has less than 12,000 miles and has destroyed two transmissions.

Map and fullblown are reputable shops with alot of experience. I have a fullblown kit with a gtx2867r. I keep a spare engine around for when this one grenades. It's going to happen eventually at near 3 times stock power output. This car with 450whp is going to be difficult to drive if you've never owned something like this before. Difficult is relative. But spinning 3rd or 4th on the highway catches some people off gaurd. 1st and 2nd are useless when it's dry out let alone in the rain.

start with 280 ~ 300whp, I think its plenty for this car. Beyond that, is a whole new realm of parts/$$/long term reliability imo.

Btw you better have a big budget and a built engine imo for longevity at those numbers

Hey I am new as well, but I know a lot and people here aren't really helpful. They know these things out of experience, the studying of this will be better.

1. Fullblown Stg 1 delivers around 300whp, stg 2 delivers more but then you would be looking to change internal of the engine since we only have 1998cc (2.0) of volume. It is not enough to run 400 without risking to blowing up. Is it possible, yes LOL but you risk 90% of blowing it up.

2. The higher the pressure the more it will be a parasite. The more the pressure the more the power though. Think of compression

3. E85 is not a recommended fuel, but it is recommended if lets say you want to have full boost on the track or to have full power once. It is not expensive but the car requires more ethanol to do what petrol do.

4. & 5. Turbo = Air going in and a lot of HEAT
Then you need to get cooling parts (oil cooler, new radiator) etc
Oil changing is ideal
Exhaust to have what goes in goes out.. N1 is 2.5" of pipes.. you need at least 3" for that power........

No.
How can you say that someone new to the BRZ/FRS and turbos is going to be safe in a 450HP twin? I stand by my post - it reminds me of Ralphie. Let's try the BB gun before the 50 cal.

The fact is this just another thread to add to the countless ones that are like this and filled with replies. You can't blame people for making the types off espouses they do sometimes.

Chances are the OPjust got the car, or is planning on getting it soon and has ideas running through his/her brain and is excited. Because of that, they just went out and asked a question to see what kind of info they could get.

Nothing wrong with that but a few minutes searching and you can easily find an answer and loads of info regarding every question asked.

Truth be told, I wouldn't even consider going past the 300hp mark without some attention the motor. That's just me though.

I'm incredibly helpful, I've told the gentleman who started this thread that all the information he seeks already exists on this forum. Imagine how annoying it would be if Wikipedia had 10 fucking pages for every topic.
