Thanks for your input. For me money isn't a problem and I generally get what I feel is the best value with value not equating to the least expensive. Mishimoto seems to be a good middle of the road choice. It IS interesting however that there are complete systems out there for 100 or less. It begs the question of is something that is 6 times more expensive 6 times better? Nobody has really stated why there is such a price difference rather than the "you get what you pay for" narrative.

Mishimoto have a brand name to protect, so, quality assurance on the line is greater.

I've used quite a few Mishimoto parts and have never had a issue with parts fitting.

Opps, forgot my main point

I feel the Forester heat exchanger thingie works best to bring up temps from cold, as a cooler there is minimal benifit.

While I have been NA the Forester item has been gold, I'll see how it handles the added temp from cooling a turbo, I really cannot see it being a issue, even in 40°+ temps as the 86 is a street car only.

If it is a issue, a Mishimoto or a AVO oil cooler will be fitted, thermostat controled of course.

The maximal oil cooler kit is a good, budget friendly unit if you can think of a way to mount the core yourself. You can upgrade the core if you track somewhere it is always hot and they will custom make the lines if you want to mount it somewhere funky.

Banjo fittings in an engine oil cooler. Nuff said.

More than a few Mishimoto coolers have backed off at the track, resulting in engine fires.

This guy is selling a thermostatic plate, oil filter adapter, and tube for $100. All you’d need is a core ($160), core mounts ($40) and the hoses/AN fittings ($50)

Banjo fitting are not bad. However you do need to know their weaknesses. (A) The hoses need a lot of space to not put a load on the fittings during engine flex. This is difficult in our tight engine compartment. (B) They have to be torqued correct. (C) A banjo fitting should be safetied period. Any one of the 3 items listed above done incorrectly will not cause an issue. You will need 2 mistakes to cause an issue. I like the plate due to the clearance with the 2017+ air box.

This was my fix. I have no worries about mine coming loose.

Incorrect install?

Banjo fittings are everywhere

From my experience 99% of issues people have when using brand name parts are due to incorrect install procedures.
