Would be very cool but that option has the following issues:

Price
Availability
Gearbox compatability
Probably Width

Also I'm loving the CAN Converter and the guy can currently program it for GM or Subaru engines.

IMS issues are a problem that can be fixed fairly easily with proper parts (LN engineering kit) when the engine is out of the vehicle, the reason it turns off so many potential porsche owners is that you have to pull the engine which is a huge cost, if its already out of the vehicle for the swap you might as well change it

This also makes all of the IMS failed Porsches good potential swap material...the cost of engine replacement can easily excede the value of the vehicle. There are plenty of LS1 options of course, but imagine finding a clean bodied boxster with a failed M96 engine and swapping in a ej255/ej257 ...you'd have something pretty comparable to brand new Boxster S for 1/4 the cost and 20 times the effort....

they are not. The 986 which is the vehicle that I am saying would be a good swap candidate existed for 8 years before the 987 (model with cayman) came out.

exactly... they are fun cars

personally other than doing it for the lols i would prefer just getting a 987 cayman, after driving a few it is making a great case for replacing my brz if the 2017 BRZ is unreasonably expensive with performance package

That would be a very poor choice. That 2.5L Duratec V6 produces 195 - 200 Hp and 165 - 169 ft/lbs depending on which model year you pull the motor from. That's going to be an awful lot of work to swap it in with negligible gains over the FA20. The 2.5L also had a serious problem with spinning rod bearings because Ford cheapened the powdered scintered rods when they started selling the SVT. The intake manifold would get caked-up with carbon / oil residue due to that dual plane manifold and a poorly designed PCV system.

The 3.0L Duratec would be a better choice (better intake manifold, cooling and oiling passages and PCV system) but it still has lousy connecting rods so you will have to plunk money into K-1 rods, rebalancing and all the gaskets and torque-to-yield bolts if you want it to last before figuring out how to fit it in the car. I pretty sure you will need a custom oil pick-up and oil pan because neither the 2.5L or 3.0L Duratec was ever put in a rear drive-only car.

If you want the powerband behavior of the SVT, you will have to find a good set of cams and chains from the 2.5L to swap-in as the 3.0L factory cams are not as rev happy. Fortunately, those are easy to find used but not necessarily with low mileage on them.

Aftermarket support for the Duratec V6s seems to be pretty poor too.

There is a lot of potential in these motors but there are much better options for the OPs project.
