Custom Grill Duct Backyard Build, Opinions?
Hello fellow Frs owners,
Here I am sharing this "NA Super Intake Duct" I made and interested in what you guys/ladies think. I've been looking into some super jdm aero, interesting pieces and parts to set my car apart from the common parts available to us here in the US. However, I'm broke and have a strong interest in building than buying. With that said, the grill on our cars is nice but not something I am a fan of. I thought there could be something better to replace it with and then this happened. Inspired by the hks, garage vary, and leg ducts, I thought I could incorporate these concepts into that solid piece of the grill. So long story short, I have a fiberglass piece that utilizes these concepts and enhances (imho) the front of the car. Now I know I risk eating rocks and sucking water but for now its just an idea. Cool idea. I'd have it follow the lines of the outer edges more. For example, the top "horizontal" line looks off.
If you're worried about sucking water (I think you shouldn't have to worry about hydrolocking since a lot of CAI for cars in general have the filter set way lower), you can always some how incorporate a shield block of some sort. Kind of like how the EVO VIII hoods allowed you to run the vent open, or block it off. |

I applaud the effort, but as the other poster said, the duct looks uneven and its driving my ocd nuts.
I would also consider a large-holed mesh to prevent random huge rocks, leaves and small critters from getting in there. |

I agree with everyone else. Very unique and cool ideal, but would look way better if it were straight instead of slanted.

And one on each side even if the left one is just a dummy. Keep it symmetrical.

I'm certain I've seen some twins that have intake ducts cut into the bumper on either side of the Toyota/Scion/Subaru logo plaque. Yep: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1459327 That said, I'm all for backyard engineering.

Was kind of thinking this but if it was colour matched to the paint, no more mustache. I like it a lot, but I agree with @Tcoat, I'd like to see a symmetrical design, maybe even more subtle too: smaller bezel around the entrance, maybe have it extend a little more to the centre with a little more "Scoop" look.
On the whole I like it though. Definitely would love to learn how to fabricate stuff like this in the future! Speaking of which @Doobster how did you learn to do this? Job or hobby?

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I totally forgot to include my main inspiration and why I chose one fun hole
With all this input lol I plan to fix the "mustache" and sharpen up those lines. Additionally, this is a hobby of mine, I was interested in composites, so I am hoping to continue my composite venture in the future! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
