Will this fit!? 265/35/18 rear!?

I'm getting Yonaka spec 2 coil overs installed and wanted to know if anyone else has successfully gotten a wider wheel and tire to work with an inch or so drop. A garage suggested 18x8.5 with 245/40 with a +35 offset up front and 18x9.5 with 265/35 with a +40 offset in the rear. I thought that would be quite tight but they seem to be confident in their sizing. Then some other garage laughed at me and said they are crazy when they took a look and told me nothing bigger than 225 all around will work. Which I know is not right either. Anyone tried a rather wide wheel and tire set up? Feed back on the sizes I got suggested.
Thanks all.

245/40 up front is not needed though, 235/40 and 265/35 would be better...

Does 8.5 and 9.5 sound right for wheel sizing if I want a square tire to wheel looks. I don't want stretched look or truck tire look.

not debating staggered versus square, just saying a 245/40 is beefy for the front. here is a car with similar sizing to what he is looking at with 235/40 and 265/35

The correct size is 245/35/18 as it is nearly identical to the OEM diameter. I have those on the front and rear.

from an engineering/performance/speedo standpoint this is your answer

it depends on what tire you run, all companys while same size can drastically be different in actually width. for a 8.5 a 245/40 is square...but once again depends on tire. for a 9.5 a 255/35 can be square if you run a Z2 or other really widetires but usually a 265/35 is square.

what ever garages you go to, stop. people that laugh and tell you that a brz can't fit more than a 225 do not deserve your business or ANYONE elses.

offset is everything in terms of fitment, you dont have anyhting crazy. you can easily fit the tire sizes you say on the car. you will need some camber adjustment but nothing crazy, how low are you going to go..what tire will you run...etc etc.

here is my thread, read through it, i thoroughly explain my issues and what needs to be dont to fit something this big PROPERLY.

for the record, i know of a brz running 285's SQAURE...so disregard these "garages"

I would quote Jive Turkey but it's too long, instead I thank you for the info. If I want to avoid adjusting caber should I just stick with 255? Also are my offsets in a good judgment or? And I think I'm dropping an inch in the rear and an inch and a half up front. I'm trying to find tires that are sized like that in a 6 spoke or nine split spoke style but having troubles. I plan on riding Toyo Proxes R1R blackwalls. They seem decent enough for what I'm looking for. It's a partial DD. when it's nice out I will be driving it to work. Only summer though, stored all winter long.

I run 235/40/18 on 8.5 fronts and 255/35/18 on 9.5 rears and there's room to go wider. I personally didn't want to go 245 fronts as I wanted to keep the steering feel responsive.

well in the rear camber is unadjustable stock, as you lower the car it will naturally camber in...thus giving you more clearance.

the front has camber bolts that you can use for adjustments, and you also have tophats you could use to adjust that as well.

the issue is offset, and yours seems easily doable.

as for the comment above, are you just going off what people said on the internet or do you have actual experience with how tires/wheels affect steering response? from m experience so far its nothing major, especially since i did most of my bushings already, the feel and turn in is all there...

I'm putting in the Yonaka coil overs and they are fully adjustable for height and camber so I will have available in the rear. I have a bit of experience. I did it all with my MR2 but I'm not always sure of my choice so I like opinions. I'm trying to learn the ways as I grow into cars as I'm only 20 and really grew an interest for it after high school. I wish I took auto courses even just to learn bear minimums. According to the link : http://www.frsproject.com/tire_size.php my sizing seems okay. I don't know how reliable this app is but it's pretty neat.

No, I have full setup including sway bars and bushings. You can feel the difference going wider up front...I noticed it right away. This car provides so much feedback its hard not to notice each and every change made to chassis and suspension and wheels/tires.

i agree, coming from my sti, i can feel every little difference in the brz.

i agree that going to a bigger tire size could ruin the pureness, but in the end, it personal choice and preference.
