Pull out the convertible hardware then add a hardtop. I saw a guy who removed quite a bit more than that from the inside. He also removed the passenger seat when he went to track days, and he'd carry a set of wheels and tools with him inside.
If you don't want the rear seats and oversteer, and if you fit, then I think the Miata really is the answer. Or an Exige. Me? I wanted the rear seats for the kids. I wanted rampant, insane oversteer for the stupids. I didn't fit comfortably in ether the Elise or Miata, and the Exige is even worse. But then a lot of people like you go for one or another kind of Z06.

If it was a weekend car only you could gut the car and add weight to the rear to get a better ratio. |

Call it what you want, I'd legit rather have a Porsche that weighed somewhere between Miata and BRZ, with ~250hp, than the GT4. It's just a shame Porsche doesn't try to build a legit small lightweight sports car. To me anyway... |

I mentioned it already, but probably you didn't saw it. There is already such a car in Europe and it is called Alpine A110. It has an aluminum chassis so it is light, it is mid-engined and it has 250hp. Do you know what happened? No one is buying it, because it is not fast enough. There are very few people that appreciate it, but the numbers are simply not enough to justify its existence.

Alpine A110 and Alfa 4C are very cool cars, but neither Alfa nor Renault has a well-established track record of building sports cars in recent history. The Renault/Alpine is French and funny-looking and unavailable in the US, but if it was I'd certainly be looking at it. Alfa has a similar reputation to FIAT in the U.S. and most considered a used Elise a better option for a car of that size with kit-car interior. Also as mentioned, no manual was a big turn-off for US sports car enthusiasts.
I'm sure Porsche would have no problem building and selling a ~2600 lb. sports car a bit smaller than the Boxster/Cayman. If they wanted to, which clearly they don't... |

Yes there was no manual option for both cars and Alfa Romeo didn't have an established market in US, but at least they were better options than hoping Porsche to build a car that does not exist and chances are will never exist with the current move to EVs. In fact the A110 was the French answer to the Italian 4C, but Renault didn't bother to join the US market after the low sales of their Italian counterpart. So, don't blame them they didn't offer Alpine to you at all. I'll also kindly disagree about the non-well established record of French manufacturers on building sports cars. They are at least the same competent to the German manufacturers and in some areas they are even better. Problem is more political and which countries are promoted economically after WWII (i.e. Germany in Europe), but I won't get more into such details.
