While the delay seems unusually longish, how has the pc545 battery held up so far?
Thanks for update.

I went with a Ballistic EVO2 16cell battery that weighs in at a heavy 3.5 lbs.
Only 500 cranking amps.

Hey, thats the battery I was thinking of going with! How long have you been running it? Any issues?

The only thing holding me back is that lately I've been driving the car just once a week.

I have been running it for about 10 weeks now. No issues so far. We sell them where I work and have only had a handful of defective ones over the almost 2 years we've sold them. A good friend of mine left his in his closet for almost a year then hooked it up in his can and it fired right up.

Wouldn't this be problematic for very cold Canadian winter?? Like, the CCA is really low..

No, it'll actually work just fine. It takes a lot less current to start an engine than most people think.

For those interested in a smaller battery, it's a fine way to save weight without significantly affecting your ability to start the car reliably.

It's worth noting the difference in capacity. 12 Amp-hours (Odyssey PC545) vs 43 Amp-Hours (Panasonic N-60B24L/JE).

Link to Panasonic battery - I'm pretty happy with the choice, from an engineering perspective.

With a Braille or Odyssey mini-battery... You can't sit in the car and listen to the radio for hours or install a monster sound system (drop the bass = drop the voltage). For those applications, I'm a huge fan of Optima and other AGM batteries (like Deka, Diehard Platinum, etc). Yellow Top is 48 Ah with plenty of cranking amps and a sealed design. Start building a bank of Red Tops in parallel if you're drawing more than 2kW or so.

I will never buy an Optima battery again. Their quality has gone to under 1 out of 5 in the last 5 years.

On a related note, I heard that Johnson Controls was doing alot of shuffling within their automotive groups... but I figured that Optima was a cash cow and would not get touched.

I've had 7 of their batteries (1 blue, 2 yellows, and 4 reds) and they've been solid. In Houston, we had an Interstate distribution center down the street... so I'd get lightly used batteries for dirt cheap. Always good customer service, and they were quite open about the hardware differences (note: internals of a blue top look identical to a yellow top in many applications). We always got 3-5 years out of them and they saw some abuse.

Odyssey is the original AGM manufacturer. Optima had to use that six pack arrangement because they didn't have proper rights to the technology. In the end, an Odyssey or one of the rebrand, such as Diehard Platinum, will fit more energy into the same foot print because they don't have the stupid voids around the cans. [/fyi]
