My car seems slow ... do these car retard for bad gas?
I just bought the car 2 days ago, however it seems slower than the ones I have tested. I am wondering if the "full tank" the dealer gave me is the cheap stuff and my computer is retartding the timing ... thoughts?
This morning it rain ... the roads were moist ... traction control off (3 seconds hold), sport mode on ... and I can not even spin the tires! My car is an automatic, but still, what gives? |

How many miles are on it? ECU might still be learning.

yeah if you bought it two days ago you are probably still breaking it in. Give it a while til the ECU gets settled

The car is equipped with knock sensors so it will pull timing if low octane
Fuel is used. Things will improve once it loosens up with some miles. |

If your car is new, it may pep up after it gets a few hundred miles on it.
Low octane gas could be slowing it down. So, I suggest you go for a long drive, empty that tank of gas, fill up with some name brand premium and report back ..... humfrz |

Just for GP, I ran a tank of 89 octane just to see what would happen. About a quarter-tank in, it was noticeably slower. Not exactly sluggish, but whoever was on watch in the engine room was not answering the bell quickly enough. Find some ethanol-free if you can.

My sales rep at a combined Toyota/Scion dealership was convinced that the Toyoburu runs on regular and tried to play that up as a positive sales point.
It's possible that a service/detail monkey wouldn't know either.

The car is slow to begin with however like many new motors, as it breaks in it will get more peppy. Run a known good fuel fill and wait for cooler weather and break into complete. After a few thousands miles it will feel better.

Run tank until empty, fill with 93 octane, keep rpms above 4500 rpm, shift at redline.

My car feels a lot more responsive after 2k miles and weather getting cooler. I only fill with 93 Mobil or Shell. Oh and no crickets at 2400 miles.
