I've also found an older version of the site as well where there are 1.3 maps bottom line the site could use a little organization

OFT with a new ECU

I am running OFT+OFH with the Stage 2 UEL 91 Octane tune and have been delighted with this combination.

Unfortunately last week the CEL came on and upon investigation it was the P0016 code (Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor A)).

I bought it to the dealer I bought it from who refused to look at the problem as I had modified the car. Needless to say they are no longer on my Christmas card list! Another dealer has diagnosed the problem to a faulty ECU and will replace it.

My question: Presumably the new ECU will come with the standard tune. Can I reinstall the OFT tune by simply erasing the OFT and reading the standard tune from the new ECU. Logically this would make sense but I thought I should ask the community first.

Thanks

@Aussie I think you would have to flash your original ECU back to stock and then erase the OFT. Then once you have the new ECU installed you would reflash it.

Bother that is impossible as the car is at the dealership and I will not have access to it before the new ECU is installed. Perhaps I should ask the good folks at OpenFlashTablet.com?

Shiv might be able to erase the data on it for you. I'm sure if you sent them an email they would know what do to.

If you don't unmarry it from your ECU, you will not be able to use it on the new one. You would have a paper weight useless OFT.

maybe ask the dealer if you can get some " personal items" out of the car and while you doing that flash ecu to stock.

if not possible talk to the openflash guys, maybe send them service reciept showing ecu change, they may be able to sort it for you but it kay require you to mail oft back to them.

its always best to flash stock tune before service for this reason.

Noob question but when switching from E85 TO 91 should I run the first tank at low rpms since the e85 is diluting the 91? Or is that not how it works... Also are the gains immediate? Or do they adjust over time thanks guys

Think of it this way: E85 is somewhat 'better' fuel (economy drop and it's agressiveness to old types of fuel lines aside, but in terms of detonation number and cooling of engine). If you switch to less aggressive tune with more conservative timings there will be nothing wrong while there still be some E85 leftovers in tank slightly enhancing resulting mix of fuel. You just won't be able to exploit that slight enhancement with your less aggressive tune for 91, that's it.

you need to re-tune for E85 to petrol switcheover unless you have flex fuel kit
after re-flash take it easy for a few miles to let fuel trims adjust.

then read most of links below :-)

Update: The dealer replaced my ECU and after first checking the VIN and type of ECU I was able to flash my Stage 2 UEL 91 Octane tune without any issues. As steve99 suggested via PM it appears that OFT is married to a particular VIN number and as long as the dealer sets the VIN appropriately then you should be golden.

In addition to steve99 I would like to also call out positive response I got from the OpenFlash guys who were willing to help me out if things didn't work out.

Thank you all.
