There is a limit to how much power you should have, it is usually determined by tyre size, or traction control.
I would like all of the powers and all of the torques. You don't always need to drive like a ****, but when you do, you want to have as many powers and torques as your tyres and abilities allow. A 0-60mph in around 3 seconds is fun. A 140mph 1/4 trap speed is scary fun. Struggling to knock off 0:00.25 of my PB at the creek or Wakie is always fun. Hearing the sound of 1000hp reverberating through the Nasho is sublime. You can still drive to the shops, you can still do the speed limits, it is just the nut behind the wheel and the linkage to the accelerator that needs to be monitored and controlled. Drop of the kids and/or Mrs of to the shops in the morning then drive to the mountains, or drag strip, or local track, fill your boots, burn some fuel and some rubber, then pick them up in the afternoon and go out to dinner. All it takes is the will to want it, oh, and the cash to back up your will. Or is that just me?

There's a spreading movement at the state level to force manufacturers to sell an increasing part of their fleets as electrified to appease environmentalists and peak oil advocates at a time when vehicles are cleaner and more efficient than ever and the US has become one of the world's largest producer of fossil fuels. This movement is being challenged by many manufacturers, including Toyota, to instead have unified Federal emissions and fuel economy standards to reduce the already sky high costs of new vehicles. Toyota said that 25% of their fleet will be electrified in the next five years, their free market plan well ahead of any political plan. That's instead resulted in organized boycotts of Toyota and others who dare object to the green lobby. Enjoy it while you can. The proverbial camel's nose is in the (Tesla Giga) tent and depending on the outcome of the next US elections, these could be the glory days of ICE's. https://www.greencarreports.com/news...ehicle-mandate https://finance.yahoo.com/news/u-aut...120000143.html |

There are quite a few issues with removing ICE cars, trucks and motorbikes off the streets. Any hippy without a clue of economics, manufacturing or engineering will say it is easy though. Politicians, need to play hardball too, people are inherently stupid and lazy. Most people are happy to burn fossil fuels, throw plastic, pollute, waste water, pollute water, and generally do things that are unsustainable and/or toxic to the environment. Look at every hard core activist, on their plastic phone, computer, car, house. When the time comes, I'm sure we will be able to have electic cars that we can modify to do mad skids, look at all the electric vehicle racing series around the world. Currently though, cost keeps them unattainable for most, and the range keeps them pointless for others. We will still be getting power for them from powerstations burning coal or nuclear. We will still be manufacturing them using the same power stations. Battery technology still has along way to go. Mr Fusion is still an option Straight ethanol is an option as well, we would need to use all the land growing our food to grow cane or corn though, so there are issues there as well. Hydrogen, yeah, manufacturing issues. The best plan I see is to reduce the world population by about 80%.....and maintain that number...but that is not a popular view, it would fix all of issues world wide. Meh,

MX5 vs a McLaren 720. So assuming your wealthy enough to even own and maintain a 720s, even then in order to actually enjoy it you have to have a serious bank account that your not constantly worried about causing damage to a 720s. So if your a millionaire yeah a 720s is more fun. If your a normal person a MX-5. I personally think I would have more fun in a twin just due to the lack of body roll and lower price point. Lower the price the lower the worry which allows one to have more fun.
Instead of a 720s I would be looking at a used Ferrari like a 430, sure its slow but man is that thing is cool and more special which makes it more fun. Something about the 720s doesn't scream cool to me, it looks funky. Despite it being very fast Im sure. I mean hell in reality if I had the kind of cash to own a 720s, I think it would be more fun to have a mx5 cup car and just thrash the hell out of it, then you could get another just for the hell of it and still have tons of money to buy another couple of normal cars/trucks/motorcycles/jetskis etc. |

For me, it's a simple formula. I like slow-car-fast, not fast-car-slow.

Besides the styling, what's really the difference between the 570 thru 720? They all have turbo V8's, no clutch pedal... seems like an e-tune on the 570 would match or surpass the stock 720, similar how the Cayman is detuned to underperform the 911. We're all car people. I think a big part of why you'd want a 720 is "status", and there's nothing wrong with that. Whatever makes a person happy.
It reminds me of an article I read about a man in Japan who would drop off his son to school in a LaFerrari, and all the other parents complained to the school saying "it's not fair, he shouldn't drive that here. Our kids are asking us "why don't we have that?" and it's not a realistic venture." I'm pretty sure to date, the guy still delivers his kid in that car. Good for him, he's clearly earned it. |
