949 Racing 6UL Wheels
Hi folks,
I'm toying with the idea of getting a new set of shoes for my new baby. I guess I'm most interested in weight primarly for unsprung weight reasons (ride and handling). Enkei's PF01 (17x8) or Fujins (17x7.5) look interesting. and both weigh in at a hair over 17lbs. I've also looked (on line) at 949 Racing's 6ULs. They're 17x8s (40 offset) and run about 16.5 lbs. The car is WRB and I don't know that I'd like the color choices Enkei offers. The 949s come in Titanium (I have a lot of that in my arms), bronze, and charcoal. I tried several searches and can't find anything on either 949 or 6UL. Anyone have any experience with them? Thanks in advance. |

RPF1's in 17x8 are 15.6 lbs if you're looking for a lighter wheel, but just quite a few people have the RPF1 so that might turn some people off if they want to be unique. I have the RPF1 in bronze and it looks pretty good to me.
6UL's are nice too. I liked their design and was thinking about getting them for my MR2 before buying the BRZ. they are mainly used on Miata's though, so you might not find much about them on these forums. I believe they just recently made a size that works for our cars.

I haven't seen anyone post pictures of them yet - the only pictures are from Jackson Racing. I would check Miata forums and see what they say about them - I believe many over there are quite fond of those wheels. BTW, that username is badass. |

Thanks guys. The car is just now broken in and the plan is to spend some time getting to know her and using up some of the stock rubber over the next 6 to 8 months. Some time between now and next spring I may get serious about the wheels. Based on my very limited experience to date, I think the Tungsten (misread as Titanium) might look good on "baby" Blue.

Google: "949 Racing's 6UL failure"
I never seen a rim come up with so many breaks like that. Just a fyi. |

1. Many of 949s wheels were used exclusively for track use, especially early on. 2. Wheels in Motorsport are a wear item, they don't last forever. There are videos on YouTube of cars going over curbing in slow motion, it's violent. 949 addressed the issue once and the amount of failures that were retuned to them were quite small. I had two sets for my miata and wouldn't hesitate to get a set for the fr-s. |

Thanks for the re-direct. My miles on race tracks were all on motorcycles, quite some years ago. I've seen a lot of broke parts (and riders), but wheels sheered at the spokes is new. If you keep the black side of the bike down on the pavement, the wheels shouldn't ever see much if any lateral loading. That said, the broken wheel pictures are thought provoking. Again, thanks for sharing your experience.
By the way, I am really new here, How does one press the button to "thank" someone without adding to the thread? I'm probably hopelessly dense, but I've looked with no success. Thanks in advance. |

LOL Took me a while to find it as well. The "Thanks" button is at the bottom right corner of every post except your own.

I wouldn't hesitate to run the 949's, lots of Miata owners as mentioned run them exclusively. Kosei makes some lightweight 17's also but they aren't the most attractive wheels. TSW Nurburgring in bronze, 17x8 +35 may be a good option too on the WRB. They are rotary forged and pretty light and strong.
