My speedmaster was having reserve issues and only ran with the chrono on, so I had to bring it to the boutique for warranty service. Wait time is a standard 6-8 weeks. In the meantime, I'm back to my trusty Seiko 5 pilot. I've been meaning to get a NATO for it since forever and this is as good a time as any.

Omega is VERY casual about warranty service which really helped with having a grey market watch. It was made 3-4 years ago and I've had it for almost 2, so it's a little early, but this is pretty much a free servicing of it. Score!

I have to admit that I'm missing the extra complications though.

Dimman's New Adventures In Watchmaking:

(OK, just case-making at the moment...)

Hand formed and soldered sterling silver turned on the lathe for a fitting test.

Bulova is going to be sacrificed for its heart, a thin ETA 2892A2 automatic.

Hope you're picking up all those silver scraps LOL

Are you trying to make a fancy case or something?

Yup to both. Scrap is ~$0.60/gram, I have a box for fillings, chips and failures that will go to a refinery once there's enough.

As for the watch, I eventually want to start making my own for sale. With the ETA 2892 I am planning a prototype 40mm diameter by 7.85mm high, nice and slim. Enamel dial experiments are in the works too, but I may need slightly taller hand fitting heights and case may have to be 8.05-8.25mm high.

Then if I can get some pre-sales, ordering some custom decorated Soprod A10-2 COSC movements (not cheap, but still my least expensive option in low volumes). Really want some micro-rotor movements that could put the heights at 6.85 and 7.05-7.25 respectively, but they are >$2000 each with a minimum of 25...

Picked up a new daily beater last week

Gains abut 15 seconds per day, can't complain for $50.
