This is what a JDL UEL header and catted over-frontpipe sound like with the rest of the exhaust stock:

I'd like to put on a header + OFT here in the next few months as my warranty expires. From the other thread, sounds like I'd get the most bang for my buck (torque dip-wise) out of a catless UEL. Car is stock, and will just be used for aggressive street driving daily and weekend country back road runs. Have some brands turned out to be better than others for this application? Are there other things I ought to take into consideration?

Can I get an opinion for my car? Stock 2014 BRZ with a Greddy SP Elite Axleback exhaust. I recently bought an oft tablet and did a stage 1 tune. I'm happy with it, but I imagine the stage 2 header tune would be even better, so that's the route I want to go. Although I do want more sound I would rather focus on as much power as possible.

My research tells me I should be leaning towards the catted EL headers then. But if I wanted that Subaru rumble I would need the UEL headers. My question is would me going with EL headers still give some sort of exhaust increase? I would like the car to be a little louder than it is now.Thanks.

Any aftermarket header will definitely give you a sound increase especially catless ones. If you want the Subie rumble you will need an UEL header. It depends on what you want out of your car if you want more power in the top end EL header is the way to go and if you want to fill the torque down low then go with an UEL header. Sound is subjective go on youtube and see which sound you like. And if you still want more sound after the header you can consider getting an aftermarket front pipe also.

Ah thanks for the reply. So EL would give top end power, and UEL would give low end? It is my opinion that top end power is more for actual racing? If I just daily this car around town never taking it to the track would you recommend low end? In that case maybe I'll consider the UEL headers. Thanks again.

Yes, if you are tracking it might be more beneficial to run an EL header, but for daily yes the UEL might be a better choice. I think with an aftermarket header and the axle back your car should sound pretty nice!

Just get el headers. Your earlier posts says you want power. Coming down to specs. The el will always beat uel. Doesn't matter what the dyno says for low end. El still wins. Uel only has sound.

FYI EL or UEL, both give you power. It's all depends on "where" it makes power. I've seen HKS EL & HKS UEL header dyno and both had exact same dyno graph lines. (Both dyno'ed at different place and time) Only difference was EL made more hp at the top end vs UEL made more hp at the mid.

BORLA UEL HEADER CRACKED AFTER 1 YR

I attached pictures of my borla header showing a failed weld, leading to cracks and eventually a hole being blown out of one of the runners. You get what you pay for I guess.

I'll just leave these words here:

Fluid dynamics

Pulse resonance

Scavenging

You cannot beat physics

I'll just leave this article here > https://www.omicsonline.org/open-acc....php?aid=77193

Good marketing seems to beat physics sometimes though.....

Stock are UEL, they do differ to most aftermarket UEL as they have 1 short primary on each head, not 2 short primaries on 1 head.

Primaries pre 17 42.7mm, 17+ 45mm
1-2 short
3-4 long

Secondaries pre 17 45mm, 17+ 48.6mm and pretty close to equal, though 1 - 2 secondary is slightly longer, tuned for matching pulse resonance by Subaru????
