Don’t underestimate the potential of a 30ft lb bump in torque, revised gearing and a flatter torque curve on acceleration. Ask BMW about how average power wins races.

SR20 DET had the benefit of 10 years of R&D from being Nissan's 4 cyl workhorse at that point though. It had been in every Silvia since the S13 as well as a few transverse mounted applications like the Bluebird and GTiR Pulsar among others.

I've thought similar with where the trunk badge goes. Plate lights are already up in there. Wouldve been free and potentially stylish to use that space.
