Anyone know if I can drop the BRZ version of the engine into the GR86? Dealership wants 26k for the engine and 4k in labor...that is on top of the teardown cost...

I think its better for me to just put a used engine in it.

Have you considered going to a Toyota or Subaru dealership instead of the Porsche dealership?

They want the price of a new car to put in a new engine? That can't be right.

The good news is dealership only spend 4hrs tearing it down to the point where they have enough data to submit the warranty work. Engine is still in car, so that is a relieve. Gonna AAA it back home this weekend.

Will share info once I got the paperwork and written reasons of denial in hand.

Can't think of why you wouldn't be able to, except maybe ECU/harness differences?

$30k...wow, I'd love to see the BOM for that job...

10 days in Jamaica for the Service Advisor and his wife definitely a part of it.

i can first hand tell you pcar dealerships are far worse, a brand new m96(for a 2001 carrera) will cost you $30k to order at a dealership... thats for the motor alone, not including any labor.

as far as the main question at hand.. yes you can use a brz motor in the 86 and vice versa.. theyre the same exact motor. wiring is all the same. ECM tuning will be slightly different between both cars, as each company has to present their own emissions numbers to the BAR/EPA.. the differences in tuning are VERY marginal. i believe it was the same for the 1st gen

Spend some money to get magazines and collab with online influencers/youtubers to pick up your story..go viral....get Toyota to notice... hopefully they pick up the tab.

Dunno, that's why I said maybe, with a question mark.
