California Smog Check
Has anyone gotten smogged recently?
I heard stuff months back that the smog stations are now just checking your ECU (plugging in a obd2 scanner) for CEL and a visual inspection for OEM components. Is there still an emissions test?

the smog program did change this year.
what we check is hook up our OBD II scanner to your car. it reads that all monitors are ready and no codes present (pending code OK). then we do a visual inspection to see every component is in place. If the car has any aftermarket parts we need to check the CARB # to make sure that built for that car and input the carb# into the system. if no label found on a aftermarket part we need to fail it. |

no anything after the secondary cat doesnt matter. you can have straight pipe it wont matter.
Also whatever I explained applies to 2000 and new cars only. All 1999 and older cars we still do the old way with the dyno and exhaust emissions |

At least with the OFT E85 tune will not cause a CEL. Reason I asked is because I plan to gut my stock headers, it sounds like I should pass SMOG okay so long that they don't do a sniffer test.

what about catless headers, assuming it passes the visual? if there is a code relating to the cat that comes up, but a tune "hides" it as labeling it unready/not warmed up (or however a tune hides the cat CEL). I know some states only allow around 1 or 2 unready codes before they fail you or tell you to come back later. I am not sure if CA allows that.

I assumed that it's just the visual and OBD2 scan. I thought the sniffer test/dyno was for the pre-2000 cars?
