I never have worn gloves (except to keep my hands warm) unless I had to.

Surrreeeee, we rarely protected ourselves against anything until WHIMIS was introduced. That changed everything. Guys/Gals your age were 100% in the dark for your entire career.

Sorry. It did come off as pretentious when it was not intended to. It wasn't the fact he had gloves it was the gross overkill of the type of gloves for the task that caught my attention.

Ha! I didn't even notice this response until after I wrote what I did. I came back to look for it.

For sure for sure. Just one example, when I was a kid back on the farm, my dad would put me on a mud boat (like a sled) pulled by a tractor. While I was dressed in nothing but a pair of shorts and a T-shirt, I would spray 2,4,5-T (agent orange) on fence rows on our farm.

Now you know, part of the reason, why I am the way I am -

I honestly just wear gloves when doing my oil changes. I'm not a grease monkey so my hands aren't always covered in gunk.

I'm guessing it is perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) such as perfluorooctanoic acid that is being sprayed to contain the fire.

Heavy, padded, leather faced, woven gloves? To change pads? If so then... well... OK.
